GeraltOfRivia_PL: Why is that? Do you think Steam has managed to get into people's heads so much that they don't realize there are alternatives out there?
Because, for whatever reason, many gamers are Steam and Valve fanboys. Yes, Steam has its conveniences. Yes, it's nice to have all of your games available from one place. Yes, it's nice to be able to automatically download game updates easily.

But those pros are tarnished by a massive list of cons and issues that Steam can and does cause. That's without mentioning the fact that virtually every major, important feature Steam has is also available through GOG and/or GOG Galaxy.

I get that Steam was the first to do it and thus people tend to gravitate toward it, but Steam has been surpassed in every way by services like GOG and, unlike Steam, GOG actually gives a crap about the games they host and the players that play them. The fact that we actually own the games we purchase (instead of leasing the rights as we do on Steam) is a major plus.

Overall, I still do primarily use Steam but there's only one reason for that: they have prepaid cash cards in retail stores for Steam credit. I'd be almost exclusively a GOG user if not for the fact that I don't have a credit card (nor do I want one) and thus, buying games on here is far harder than it needs to be. The fact that I have to ask permission from a relative -- which ends up being my grandmother as she's the only one with a credit card -- to buy games as a fully-grown adult is extremely irritating, especially since she is pretty leery about online shopping. I won't use a debit card on here either, as I rarely use one as it is and I definitely don't like using them online. Prepaid credit cards won't work, either, because they implemented a policy a year or two ago where you can't use them to make purchases outside of the US. Since GOG is a Polish company, they're disqualified.

If GOG had prepaid cards in retail stores like Steam does, I would 110% do almost all of my game shopping on here except when a game is unavailable on here. Given GOG's intention to revive the glory days of gaming, albeit in the modern/digital age, the ability to use cash to purchase games (via retail cash cards) instead of being forced to use a credit card, that'd be an appropriate thing for them to do. Besides, I love GOG and CD Projekt and thus I love supporting them whenever I can; the fact that I can't do that because they don't have a payment option that works for me, it's frustrating. I know I'm not alone on this, either. People like me, we may not be a majority by any means, but there are plenty of us out there that would rather use prepaid cash cards to buy our games on here. I mean, I suppose it's partly a good thing they don't have them because it means I won't lose all restraint and buy more games here than I can afford, but still, it kinda sucks that I can't choose to use GOG more than Steam due to this issue.

But I digress, Steam has too many issues and not enough people recognizing them. It's frustrating to be one of the few that address this issue because if more people stood up and realized what Valve is doing to gaming, maybe GOG could actually rise to the top so gamers could once more truly own the games they purchase. Steam is literally only good for its convenience, at this point.

Does Galaxy have yet....

1. Big Picture Mode (like Steam)?
2. Built-in screenshot taking and a way to upload them onto GOG's servers & your profile?
3. Steam Link Feature (to send what you're playing from your PC wirelessly to your PC)?
Side note - Some TV's like my Samsung TV have built-in Steam Link into it too.
4. Built-in controller support for Xbox controller and other non-Xbox controllers?

I doubt many people, at least on GOG, would use a big picture mode as that's usually to appeal to console gamers. Screenshots, you can just take yourself and paste into MS Paint; it's really not that difficult. As for the link feature, again, it's a neat feature but it's really not all that necessary unless you plan to play AAA games on the go. And also, as for controllers, I doubt that the majority of GOG's customers use them due to how this community is very PC-centric.

I'm not against them implementing any of those, I'm simply saying that those aren't very important features overall and shouldn't prevent a user from using Galaxy 2.0.

It's a lot of the little things like these, that make me want to use Steam: b/c of its features. People wonder why people like myself use Steam - it's b/c of extra features like the 4 that I mentioned.

I use these features a lot, so....I would like for this to be added, if GOG would ever got onto it.

And these features to me are important, as I'm using them on Steam a lot.

Anyways...

01. I flip over to Big Picture Mode a lot for when playing controller-based games. Just seems logical.

02. Given that I take tons of screens & just dump a lot of them over to my Steam Profile/Cloud - cut & pasting like crazy is not really a great idea over to MS Paint; might be there forever. Would be nice if I could post these up on my GOG Profile, for when I play games like Witcher 3, XIII, NWN2 Complete that I actually own here, for my GOG Friends and those looking at my GOG Profile to check out!

In the older days, it was easier w/ Steam for screenies - b/c I could add Witcher 2 GOG version (or any other Non-Steam games) as a Non-Steam game and when I post pictures, it shows up on your Activity Feed on Steam; nope, not anymore, since Valve changed that. You can post 'em, but it won't show in your Activity Feed. I would love for my GOG Friends to see all this publicly.

03. I have a Samsung TV w/ built-in Steam Link - so this option's great to stream games like MK9, MK10, NFS: Hot Pursuit 2010, NFS: Undercover, and/or any other games that are more couch-friendly & console-gaming style friendly over to my TV.

04. Given that there some more modern games on PC which are on consoles and have controller support (like Dishonored, The Evil Within series, etc) on GOG and some older ones here (like MK1+2+3 Pack and MK4) on GOG - it just seems logical to handle the "controller" issue natively inside the Galaxy game-client app like say Steam does, so in case a game might or might not support a controller - well, you can use GOG to handle it.

I have to add certain games over as Non-Steam games over on Steam b/c I bought them on GOG; and GOG Galaxy doesn't have all the features Steam does have.

BTW, I've been doing PC Gaming since 1995; good old Windows 95 era. My first games here on PC were Quake 1, DN3D, MechWarrior 2: Mercs. Ah, yes - the good old days!
