Post in question: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/free_games_for_the_asking/post8

I was cleaning out my account and found 3 unredeemed keys, so I started a thread to give them away. The first one, Consortium, went without a hitch. But both my copies of 1954 Alcatraz - both marked as "not yet redeemed" on my account - showed up for gift-ees as no good.

Any ideas, GoGlodytes?

Much thanks.

Hey Misteryo - long time, old friend...

They may have been freebies that expired. I found one and wrote to support - they gave me valid key that I was able to gift. Maybe try that?

2 questions:

1) Can you redeem any of the codes? If you already have the game, does it also say that the code is used?
2) When did you acquire the codes? Was it, perhaps, December 2015? If yes, there might be a chance that those codes became invalid for one reason or another (same issue occurred to some other people here), so your only option is to contact GOG support.

Don't worry.
It's just a minor glitch caused in codes brought during pinata sale.
Ask support and you will get new codes.

One thing nobody mentioned yet that I can see, is that if you get gift codes from GOG which expire, they clearly state in your order history that they will expire on a certain date so you can make sure to redeem or gift them before then. If there is no clear indication that they expire, then they shouldn't expire. Worst case, contact GOG support to get'r sorted. :)

Oh they don't expire. They are just bugged. From everything I gathered it happens to codes that got generated between September and December 2015. But gog can't do anything about it apparently. Response from support about this ongoing problem was "just send us a ticket and we'll give you new codes".

Only very specific games have codes that will expire and 1954 Alcatraz ain't one of them.
I should have added "if your order history actually works" above. :) It's working again for me now but I know not for all of you. hehe
