Yes, but I installed it from GOG
Yes, but it wasn't installed on this PC
No GOG has it's own folder.
No Galaxy isn't connected to Origin...
Even if galaxy is not linked to origin. If you only installed the gog version in your. That you have in your library even if not installed dead space. When you launch origin, origin automatically scans your pc to detect if there are any ea games. So detect your gog version of deadspace and update to convert it to the origin version. It is by no means the problem of gog. But of ea and origin quite simply. The solution is to go in the parameters of origin and block the updates.

Since when? Every folder? Only on Windows 10?

Too bad I can't test it right now, but I'm curious.

I'm going to install a few games tonight and see what happens.

paladin181: It has not done this to me. I have both Galaxy and Origin installed, nd have played Dead Space without incident.
Fair enough, I was just going by what people said above. It would be pretty odd for Origin to do that, but it also wouldn't really surprise me either. In any case, easy solution is easy (and also DRM free matters more for preservation than for avoiding using a client you already use).

I confirm it. It makes me with the gog version of dead space and mirror edge (it does not work with all ea gog games). It also does this with some of my boxed games as well as a mass effect.

The problem is not gog,the games are drm free. But originally which does the scanning when the automatic updates are activated to detect and update the versions gog to the standard of origin (to be therefore launched on origin and therefore added a small drm with). The solution is to simply deactivate the automatic update of origin.

So as I suspected, with Origin installed, active and logged in, Running Dead Space made no calls to Origin, or required origin to run. So then I disabled Origin, and the game runs fine. Then I uninstalled, and installed via Origin. The game plays fine. I disabled Origin, and started the game, and it does indeed call Origin.

So then I uninstalled the Origin version and installed the GOG version again, and started it with Origin closed. The game did not call Origin. I then booted Origin and tried to run it again, and Origin detected the game and asked if I accepted the EULA, and wanted to update. However, cancelling this worked fine and I was able to play the game without incident. I suspect the game isn't working on the OP's system for some reason, and he is running the game with Origin open. I think these two issues are unrelated but concurrent and it coincidentally seems as though the game will not run until the EULA is accepted.

Running the game with Origin closed after declining the EULA and update did not call Origin to reopen.

Just a PSA to anyone out there though, make sure if using Galaxy to have GOG selected for the DRM Free version of the game (see attachments)

Paratech2008: I thought my purchases on GOG were DRM Free, Why do I have to log in to Origin to play them? Why are they requiring Origin? What happened to DRM Free?
The GOG version does not require Origin.
However ... when it comes to Dead Space there is a bug - in Origin.

It has been a few years since I tried this, so I might remember incorrectly, but I think I got it right.

Both GOG and Origin versions have the same registry entries.
When you start Origin, it detects the installed GOG version and patches it, making it a Origin version.
I already contacted EA about it but basically they answered "we don't give a shit".

I assume the same happens with Jade Empire and some other games available on Origin.

The workaround:
Install the GOG version, then copy it to someplace safe, uninstall it, then play the backup copy.
This way Origin won't find it.

Probably if the data is corrupted this problem could be solved reinstalling. Anyway it is possible that Origin or even Ubi connect do search for games if the apps are installed and running.

In fact I owned Prince of Persia Sands of Time for years in Ubi Play. I uninstalled the title when I purchased the game in GOG.
Surprinsingly My later GOG installation was detected by Ubi Connect. but perfecly DRM Free, indeed the game is shown as installed into Ubi with the proper route of my GOG game but instead of a Play button, an Update button is shown.

I must understand that if I'd update the game via Ubi, my DRM free version should be converted to the proper Ubi version.

Weird indeed. Maybe something Registry related or something about a detection of any kind made by the Ubi launcher. Not a great deal, after all. The GOG version is untouched for now, just detected by a different Launcher

Not sure, but something similar cold be present with some modern Origin Games.

This seems to be the case. The Origin launcher detects and asks you to update. The game not working is coincidental.

Thank you for your detailed report. So it seems that Origin might detect the GOG version of Dead Space and could ask the user to *apply the DRM patch* and in that case the game becomes Origin related. Cancelling *the offer* or not running the Origin will not remove the DRM-free from GOG version of Dead Space. Accepting "the offer" from Origin and then updating the game from GOG Galaxy will bring back the DRM-free quality to Dead Space game.

So I assume that:
1. GOG is not to blame for DRM nightmare practices of Origin.
2. OP might accidentally run Origin and accepted the *update* to Dead Space.

The case is closed. Thank you, everyone.
I'm going to double check this on Windows 7 and Windows 10 in a month.

Yes, as I posted earlier.

There IS a workaround. Install the game, then copy it to a different directoy, then uninstall.
Now do NOT move the files back to the original directory, because if you do so, Origin will still find them.
Play the game from that different directory instead.

I went through all this a couple of years ago and lost a some hair until I got the solution.

No need to check it on Windows 10, this happened to me more than 2 years ago, before Windows 11.

https://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin-Client-Web-Technical/Prevent-automatic-update-of-Dead-Space/m-p/8237756#M46888

It even happens if you have the Origin version installed at the same time in a different directory.
I assume that Origin always updates the last location where Dead Space was installed to and most likely it does the same with the other games.

OK, thank you. Dully noted.
And yes, I saw your post about workaround. Oddly enough Origin was doing fine when I was playing my GOG version of Dead Space, it was in 2019 year as well.

I think you have to own it on Origin as well in order to experience that bug. It may not look for it if there is no reason to.
