Suggestion: How about making this thread strictly about the character names, not the games' titles (since we already have a thread for the latter)? So "dude from (game)", or "this is (game)" wouldn't count, only valid answer would be "this is (character name)", optional: "from (game)".

(I suppose that's what the OP had in mind, but the thread seems to evolve in another direction.)

But that would exclude characters with no official names. Sometimes you have very caracteristic, notable, recognizable, background or even main characters, that weren't given a name (names in videogames are less frequent than memorable characters - unlike in movies, where you can search the casting for secondary characters). It would be too bad to exclude them. I have several exemples in mind but, I wouldn't want to spoil them right now.

Anyway, that would be for the OP to weight pros and cons and clarify what he means...

Edit : Maybe at least a "unique character" rule instead ?

Like him.

He immediately came to mind here. No official name but one very famous unofficial name.

well, the question is "who or what" so in this case the answer would be Pyramid Head or Red Pyramid or Sankaku Atama

But the game wouldn't allow to ask who this is, for instance ?

hmm.... don't remember if he is named in the comic itself. but then maybe just a description? for example "The photographer from the titles in North and South" - could that work?

That's my opinion, and that's why I fiind the name requirement too restrictive.

That said, I was precisely re-reading "Des bleus en noir et blanc", and I'm ready to assume it's Mathew B. Brady, so, yeah, maybe not the best exemple to make my point.

Erm, I don't know - I would argue that "Pyramid Head" is his official name.
I mean, maybe not his "birth name"...but definitely a nickname under which everyone knows him.

I love this thread, but this is SO confusing. :P

But you can clearly recognize that this is a photographer, regardless of whether you're familiar with the game or not, so I don't really see the difference to just guessing the game title, which would be the same thing the other thread is about. Same with "this is the duck from Duck Hunt". Seems a bit pointless to me. If this was a thread about showing us your favorite side characters or something, I could understand, but as a guessing game, I really don't see how that's different from "What is this game", if the thing you're meant to guess apart from the title can't even be named precisely (and/or is something so obvious and general as a duck or a photographer on top of it).

Anyway, it was just a suggestion.

That should be Harry Walker from "Renowned Explorers: International Society".

Yup. I was afraid this thread had derailed into a discussion about the subtleties of the rules...
