Antimateria: Luckily you seem to like better games like FF and MGS.. Also ultima iv. =)

Elmofongo: Man that was sooooo long ago. And I still have not even got throught the prolouges of the later Ultima games :P

They are that hard.
Still.. well done. =) *says avatar*
This may not be helpful, but I would recommend Awesomenauts over any of them. League is a mess, HOTS is a callous clone and Dota has the worst community of any game ever made. If you want a good MOBA, Awesomenauts is the way to go. My two cents.
Oh, no! I'm not getting into this type of ridiculous discussion again. I'm going to keep it simple and give a piece of advice to everyone. Play them all and see which do you like. If you like them all, play them all. If you don't like any of them then play something else.
There isn't a better one. They just exist and cater to different preferences and levels of game complexity.
Dota 2 is for hardcore. If you have the slightest casual aura then go with LoL or HotS. HotS is very simple and straightforward.

Dota 2 is Free to Play for everything. Roster is available from get go - 100+ heroes pool.

Don't expect the same for HotS and LoL. Even for a simple skin Blizzard will charge 7 USD for it.

And yes, the future is with Dota 2. See the current TI5? The biggest prize pool in e-sports history.

With Valve's Source 2 coming, it will be equipped with custom maps and many great perks. HotS and LoL literally have no chance to compete with Dota 2 in MOBA world.

I'm sorry, but I had to chuckle at this a little. I'll admit, as I don't play MOBAs I don't follow the market very closely, but still, if there is one thing we've been shown time and time again, it's that "casual" wins with "hardcore". For obvious reasons casual games will always have more players. At best the two can coexist, with smostly separate player bases. I don't see why it would be any different with MOBAs. It's like saying proffesional poker tournaments spell doom for Hearthstone. I don't want to be insulting, but you sound rather fanboyish and unreasonable.

Also this.

I've played them all, so I know exactly what I'm talking about.

Dota 2 has steep learning curve, which either games HotS and LoL don't have. I stomp HotS' MM as soon as I play some games.

In DotA, you can't. So many things to consider, item, hero builds, compositions.

That's what differentiates between casual and hardcore games.

I did not argue with your claim of Dota being more "hardcore". I said that it being more hardcore does not mean it's going to be more succesfull than it's competition. But your attitude pretty much confirms what I said about you being a fanboy :D

I prefer Dota, of course I am a fan of it. That's because I know the facts since I do play them all. It's not some 'third party experience' citing from other sources.

Personal experience speaks things better.

You still seem to misunderstand my point.

I am not arguing which game is better.

I am talking about how succesfull they are. I am not arguing with your claims of how "hardcore" or superior Dota is. I'm just saying that does not mean it's going to overtake it's competition and rule the market like you said. It's the casual games that attract the bigger audience. Did you even look at the article I linked? LoL makes in 5 days what Dota earns in a month.

I will try Dota 2, then, hmmm.

KiNgBrAdLeY7: I 've been reading they are similar to each other, plus free (or freemium). Has anyone played one? Maybe more than one? Maybe all of them, even, perchance? Anyone can commend or recommend one of those? And most importantly, which one out of them, is the LESS *pay to win* (or pay to cut shortcut)???
Sorry for the necro but I had to say this: Try SMITE.
It's a 3rd person MOBA which is more intuitive, faster-paced, easier to get into, more casual and more fun. The 3rd person point of view changes more about the gameplay than you'd imagine.

I played over 2 thousand hours of dota and dota2 in the past (a bit of League of Legends too) but since I started playing SMITE I'm never going back.

Also, it has just been released on Steam.

Elmofongo: DOTA 2 > Heroes > LOL.

But to people who grew up with RTS games like Warcraft and Command and Conquer:

"None because they killed the RTS genre"

(This is not my opinion, I have just seen people saying that MOBAs killed RTS games)
Dota, and possibly (wild theory) the others wouldn't be as big as they are if it weren't for the team who created the original dota from Warcraft 3. Kinda confusing that Warcraft is a blizzard game, yet dota 2 was made on Steam.

Read the negative reviews on Steam about dota 2. There is definite substance in them. I think they would ring true through all MOBA style games.
None of them for me, grinding, arguing, clanning, losing time, looters, scammers, children, no thanks...
I prefer the original Dota where I can play offline versus AI
Smite. Jk.

I would say Dota 2. I've tried LoL before, but the ping I got while playing it ruined my gaming experience, so I quit for good. This doesn't mean that LoL is bad though. For Heroes of the Storm, I've never tried putting my hands on it. I think the characters are a little bit too over sized when compared to the size of the maps in that game.

If you were interested, maybe you could give Smite a try.
