Klumpen0815: They could at least release a cheaper version here specifically stating the missing features pre-sale.
With the drama that happened when Armello devs announced the launch of "Armello, DRM Free edition" on GOG (basically what the "light" edition you want would be : the base game without the multiplayer, DLCs and microtransactions available on Steam), I don't think GOG is too eager to try it again anytime soon :/
Maybe the devs don't want to take the time to implement features with Galaxy.
As mentioned by mqstout the devs barely takes the time to work at all on the DRM-free version at all, it's outdated, doesn't have access to DLCs, doesn't have multiplayer, etc...

IMHO in it's current state GoG are smart to avoid it.

Klumpen0815: Since sadly the former is a given, I was talking about the latter.
Is the gutted, and neglected, DRM-free version on HB priced differently than the Steam one? I haven't checked, but I suspect the answer is "No". Did a gutted version ever come here, or elsewhere, with a lower price tag?

We should be treated equally, as in get the same, full version, not be "compensated' for being thrown a bone, and feeling all grateful about it. JMO

€41,99 for the gold version and as always you can't just buy the DRM-free port, you'll have to buy it alongside a Steam key as well...

You're right.
I really hope this behaviour gets rewarded by having this game pirated to hell and back by people who are into that, I'll just play the first Dungeon Keeper again then, it still rocks.

mqstout: (KS Backer for the project)

Short answer is, the devs sucked from Valve's teets and have taken to loving DRM. They implemented all sorts of Steamworks features. They won't do anything with the DRM-free version on Humble, which they only put up to prevent from doing refunds to KS backers. I don't even have everything I backed for. It's a shell of the game, since none of the extra content, DLC or multiplayer work with it.
As a fellow KS backer i fully agree. I backed because of DRM free and feel betrayed by the devs on this.

Ouch, that really sucks. Shame on Subterranean Games.
I waited a long time to see if the game would appear on gog, but it never did, so I bought it in December during a sale. I would still buy a game of the year edition with the all the DLC once the second big DLC is released, but I guess that'll never happen.

Hi guys,

Managing director of Brightrock Games (previously Subterranean Games) here.

While I don't think some of the comments in this thread are fair to the situation, I do understand where you are coming from. A few points:

1) The game simply wouldn't have been finished without the revenue Steam provided and the time that Steamworks saved - we spent the last few months of development with literally no money.
2) We didn't release the DRM-Free version to prevent backer refunds, we did it because we promised we would. We actually issued several refunds to DRM-Free backers that requested it once we realised the DRM-Free version wasn't going to be as complete as we would have liked.
3) This is the same reason you can't buy the DRM-Free version alone at the moment - we aren't happy with it as a standalone product.

However, I do have some good news - we have been in contact with GOG are planning a release once the 2nd expansion and the other planned content is complete. We've opted to wait until then because we didn't want to release 80% of the 'final' version then release the expansion through GOG - I'd much prefer one definitive edition here :)

The DRM-Free version will (and already does) support LAN multiplayer, and we will look into GOG Galaxy multiplayer too - but no promises until we've had the time to research it properly. The map editor also works in the non-Steam version.

Please let me know if you've got any further questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

Huge thank you for taking the time to post here, and giving us this good news.

As I said, I backed you guys on kick Starter (got the t-shirt) , and you did a fantastic job. But what happened with the DRM free version did leave a sour taste.

I understand why developer use Steamworks, but it does cause extra work for developers if they want to release "sans steam".

So, assuming the GoG version will have the expansion included, I will happily buy the game again (as I've done with other products) to get it out of VALVe's control.

Both Heart of Gold and the upcoming 2nd expansion will be included in the GOG release, along with all the smaller updates we've done.

Once you release this could you please add it on GOG Connect as many of us bought it already after giving up all hope of a GOG release...

Awesome! Great news. Loved Dungeon Keeper, though I could never survive how crazy hard that expansion pack was.

We'll certainly look into it, but as it'll be priced as including all content we would need you to own the same content on Steam, and I'm unsure if GOG Connect has that kind of functionality yet.

Cool news, thank you for the comment.
I hope that you'll be able to release your full game here, then! : )
