paladin181: Ugh those incredibad boss fights tho.

DC is a must just for that. And integrating the missing link directly into the game was a good choice.

StingingVelvet: Integrating it was a bad choice, because it throws balance off completely. You get a massive dump of upgrades at the end of the game, and the pacing is way off. It works best as its own thing, same as Mankind Divided's DLC. Also the "Director's Cut" removes most of the gold filter which the game was designed around, making it look ugly and weird. Also, on my old PC anyway, the original release runs better.

The added boss fight options are nice (though honestly I never had an issue with the originals, other than feeling out of place in a pacifist run) but it doesn't make up for those issues IMO. I very much recommend the original game.
I agree, what a shame that the original version isn't sold anymore. Also, I recommend disabling the pre-order DLCs because they trivialize the difficulty early on and it has a stupid bonus mission that also alters the pacing.
Seriously. Alpha Protocol. Binary Domain was nowhere near as good.

Snowstone: I just finished the Mass Effect Trilogy (well technically I have yet to gather all achievements). And I'm itching to play a similar game.
You could try another Bioware game ? If medieval fantasy isn't what you are looking for now, there is Jade Empire. The scenery will be a change, that's for sure.

Oh man, that made me laugh so hard. Thanks for that link. Anyway yeah, good advice... disable the pre-order cheat items, on both games.

OneFiercePuppy: Oh, and let me - once again, because I'm a broken record - suggest you look at ENSLAVED: Odyssey To the West. Highly underrated. Tight story. Good gameplay. Amazing graphics for its time. Plus it's usually about five bucks when its on sale, and sometimes half that.
Great shout that! Really cool story and the most beautiful female character ever in a game for me - I was totally in love with Trip by the end of the game - still miss her...

I guess the closest I can think of, off the top of my head, is Mars: War Logs (which XYCat also mentioned). From what I recall it's rather an action adventure game with combat in the style of the Arkham series but it did kinda feel very much like Mass Effect overall.

Then there's The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. It's not an RPG and obviously it has this "alien invasion in the 50s" setting going on but the combat felt very much like in Mass Effect to me. Cover based shooting and two sidekicks of your choice that you order to use special attacks and stuff (at least from what I recall - it's been a few years).

Considering the first mod I installed on the original removed the piss filter, I don't see that as a negative.
