Which by their own admission around 12 people actually care about, so just release it without multiplayer maybe? I mean it's cool that they're doing it for those 12 people, but I will never play it online myself.

They could, and according to a source that was the plan at one point, but they also want future customers to have full functionality regardless.
Will get it, regardless! Patience had always been, one of my main merits! I can wait even YEARS, in order to buy something, here on GOG! Never again, shopping anywhere else!

I think it's about the bigger picture. GOG is trying to do more to compete with Steam and part of doing that is having the same features as Steam releases. I don't care about multiplayer either but this is my take.
I keep tabs on the dusk discord, news is an announcement or release will happen next week... maybe week after,
