Ixamyakxim: For a moment I thought it might be Two Worlds but I checked out a walkthrough / plot summary and couldn't find the section I'm remembering.

I really want to believe it was Divinity 2 but again I don't remember this specific section being in the game. Oh well hopefully it comes to me eventually (or I look through D2 plotlines a bit more and it turns out that was it).
