They introduced GOG Connect to pair your Steam games to your GOG account, yet previously-released Steam games are still being released to GOG without Connect being taken advantage of.

Of course. Any copy given through GOG Connect is a copy that will not be sold. For games that have been available outside of steam in the past, GOG Connect may be easier to offer. For games that have been Steam only (or retail) until recently, GOG does hope to move quite a few numbers of them, thus they may be unwilling to offer them on connect.
So much as I'd like to have the recent Bethesda games on Connect, I honestly didn't expect them to be on release.

The actual point of GOG Connect was never to bring all your Steam games to GOG and on a regular basis, although it's easy to misinterpret it that way, due to the misleading PR speech. But in truth GOG Connect is just an occasional limited promo event.

More gamers, more games. And a truckload of other reasons, such as publicity and all.
Simple equation, I guess.
Publishers have to agree to connect, like Deep Silver did with the Saints Row games. Bethesda probably wants to see how well these sell and then maybe release some newer stuff.

And a dumb one at that, since now every asshole with a Steam account feels entitled to receive free handouts from gog. I'm sick of every other post in a release thread to some long-awaited DRM-free premiere (New Vegas, Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, Saints Row IV) being "I got this on Steam, gibs me free gog copy!" It's infuriating.

Time was, people in these release threads went "I already got this on Steam, but I'm buying it here again to support you guys for putting out a DRM-free version." And gog put a swift stop to that by inviting all the Valvetards over and giving them the VIP treatment for being a competitor's customer. For the benefit of... what exactly? Free publicity? For every free game the Valvetards receive, they will complain twice as loudly when gog launches a recent-ish game and they don't immediately get their gog Connect welfare benefits. "Where's my gog connect?! Waaah! Waaaaah!" How's that for free publicity?

This. So much this. No good deed ever goes unpunished.

I personally thank GOG for all the free games and awesome deals they've given us over the years. And if I get a game once in awhile through GOG Connect, it's a bonus.

and yet the special needs over entitled opinions of the people here are any better? "I want this, I want that! Why does this not work on linux?! Does it come with the original, I don't want a remaster! Where's the XP support?!" Talk about bloody tedious.

It's to give GOG users the ability to play a few Steam games DRM-free without having to buy them again.

Aren't we Germans also "retards" for feeling entitled to get the same uncut versions like the rest of the world?
And if you have the money and are fine with being double charged for the same game then more power to you...

I wouldn't call it "dumb". Those who had the game on Steam were very unlikely to buy the game on GOG anyway, so there is no loss of sales there. On the other hand, those who did make use of it, might come to like GOG and start buying other games here, so there is a good potential for additional sales. Though like Leroux said, the PR speech could have been handled better.

Regarding entitled people, every single promo brings them out; nothing really to be done about it. Just look how many of them appear whenever GOG gives away a free game ("I just bought it 2 months ago, and now it's given away! I want my money back", "I already have it! I want another game for free!", "Lasted only 2 days? I missed it. GOG should have extended it another 24 hours."). Doesn't make those promos dumb either.

Maybe GOG should only do connect for customers that apply (long time clients or they buy a lot), in a sense to reward those who have stuck with GOG and supported GOG. Maybe offer them the connect and that will avoid the people who only come here now because they can get their Steam games DRM free now.

Maybe look at years service as one option BUT...
if a person does not have long years but he did buy a lot of games then he will also qualify.

Reward only the real GOG supporters.

Maybe thats an option for GOG. Just my opinion, please do not bite by head off. Just thinking here. Any opinions guys???

I don't think that is the demographic they are aiming for anymore.
Yeah, that totally defeats the purpose. The big spenders and long time GOGlodytes are already here and GOG supporters. The whole point of Connect is to try to get Steam customers to try GOG and maybe stay for the long haul.

I guess those who are long time client already have all the games that GOG Connect may offer. I for one have not yet used this feature as I have bought all the games that I'm interested at long before the GOG Connect. And I'll continue to buy other good games without waiting for transfer.
I think GOG Connect is aimed not at the long time client. On the contrary, it's aimed at new clients, at gamers who are not on GOG yet but may migrate from Steam to GOG (and with a transfer of part of the library it is more likely).
