I feel both elated and worried at the same time.
Max Payne had been and still is a sensation among Indian gaming communities. The atmosphere, sound design, narrative and gameplay mechanics all felt so perfect at that time and still stands as an example of good game design to me. And the fact that Remedy are handling the development is a relief.
But as the IP is owned by Rockstar, I am worried how good the end product will be. Also, I don't really have any hope of getting a DRM Free version this time too.

What are your thoughts on this?
Max Payne will no longer look constipated plus other changes that are sure to disappoint. Well, as long as it's not handled with the same care given to the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy...

As for DRM, it will likely use Rockstar's proprietary launcher, so say hello to always-online bullshit.

Since Max Payne 2 is one of my favorite games and there is a small chance that after the first game they just might create a second one, and this time with proper ending for Mona Sax, I'm semi-excited.

The best litmus test as to whether or not it will be crap will be to see whether or not they SJW-ize the appearance of Mona Sax.

I'm betting that they will.
Can't remember any game remake that was good as much as the original.
Since it's Remedy doing the remake and they're going to use their propriatary engine, I believe this will not be the same situation as the GTA Trilogy in terms of presentation/gameplay/bugs etc.

However, since Rockstar are the owners of the IP, I believe they will do what they did with the GTA games: delist the originals and make the Max Payne remakes exclusive to their launcher.
Not like the games needed a remake, but I'm afraid that nothing will change for GOG. We will get neither the originals, nor the remakes.
The game was actually served by its limitations. The noir monologue pastiches were fun and looked tongue-in cheek with Max Payne's flat and overdramatically constipated mug. I fear that, with nowadays' movie-realistic graphics, they'll just look self-serious. The slightly outrageous, cartoonishly gritty style may lose a whole dimension in a remake.
I don't like remakes generally speaking, and remakes where the original developer (Remedy in this case) is not involved are even worse.

And as Max Payne hit the perfection in its own genre the first time, anything that comes after will only be a step down.

Even Max Payne 2 was a disappointment, technically it was more advanced than the original game, but what was fresh and intriguing in the first game, doesn't work as well in sequels anymore.

I consider Max Payne as one-time near-perfection, repeating the formula might be commercially doable, but in any artistic sense is pointless.

Now, if they take the story and turn it into a completely different kind of game, I could support that.
Max Payne point-and click, that would be a great idea!

Of course transforming the bullet time thing to other genres might be challenging to say the least, but at least the story itself would work very well in a different format.
Assuming there's enough money (there probably isn't), even some open-world non-linear action-adventure might be good. But simply doing the same thing all over again with new graphics and different resolution, pointless.
Not on GOG, don't care.
