Crosmando: Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki (pretty much all of them)
I've watched five more Studio Ghibli films: THE CAT RETURNS, FROM UP ON POPPY HILL, OCEAN WAVES, THE SECRET WORLD OF ARRIETTY and WHEN MARNIE WAS THERE. Awesome.

Lifthrasil: But what is definitely missing is Ghost in the Shell. One of THE cyberpunk movies and one of the best animes of all time.
avatar
Gede: I agree with Lifthrasil on Ghost in the Shell. Also, Perfect Blue is really worth seeing. Black Swan copied from Perfect Blue like The Matrix copied from Ghost in the Shell.

Ghostfromthepast: Ghost in the shell (Mamoru Oshii, 1995)
avatar
Crosmando: Ghost in the Shell 1/2
avatar
Licurg: -Ghost in the Shell
-Perfect Blue
I finally watched GHOST IN THE SHELL, GHOST IN THE SHELL 2: INNOCENCE and PERFECT BLUE. As Keanu would say: woah!

Leucius: One of my favorites is Paranoia Agent. I have the boxed set, which I'm actually trying to sell right now. Apparently non mint boxed US sets are worth ~$150-200 here in the US.
That probably has a lot to do with the fact that the British release was censored:

Ah. It sold, by the way. Wasn't mint though, so I didn't get anywhere near what I posted.
Absolutely anything that Hayao Miyazaki or Studio Ghibli touches. My Neighbor Totoro was my introduction to anime as a little kid. Barefoot Gen and Grave of the Fireflies -- both tearjerkers and eye openers. Prepare your tissues!!

WarDN: Everything from Satoshi Kon is really worth your time (Paprika, Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, Millenium Actress).
I've now seen all four Satoshi Kon films. All were great, but my favorite was TOKYO GODFATHERS. It's a shame pancreatic cancer took him from this world so soon.

while in Japan I met Yoshitaka Amano the illistrator for The Heroic Legend of Arslan
He got me hooked on anime as it is millions of times better then American illistrations of the same type. Before My demon Ex decided to destroy my collections I had close to 300 titles from Akira to Zvezda. Alot of them were signed by the original animators too, so irreplacable and priceless.
Wow, Isao Takahata really deviated from the established Studio Ghibli art style, but it worked. I also saw two of his older films: CHIE THE BRAT and POM POKO.
