Hey guys i am on 1920/1080 and why am wondering whether i should switch to playing on my TV (which i assume to be 4K)

Have you ever played PC games on your TV? What's your experience of that?

Do you think it's worth it? Did you enjoy the experience?
TVs usually have problems that make them not good for gaming on, i.e. low refresh rates, high response times, high input lag times, etc.

Plus, playing at 4K resolution is often not better than lower resolutions, because unless you have very powerful hardware, then you won't be able to handle 4K at a decent frame rate... unless you first turn down many of the game's graphical settings to low and/or medium...which makes the game look relatively ugly and defeats the purpose of using 4K with the hope to make it look better.

Whereas maybe your hardware could have handled the game with high or ultra settings if the game were set to a lower resolution, in which case the game running at a lower resolution than 4K but with great graphical settings, will often look better than a game running at 4K resolution but with bad to mediocre graphical settings.

TVs have taken it into account for a long time that people play on them with e.g. gaming consoles.

For the "lag problems" there is usually already a PC or gaming mode in the TV which disables any postprocessing stuff on the picture which is normally the reason for the lag, or even if it doesn't, you can switch them off yourself.

Still, I guess a high-end gaming monitor with ultra-low response times etc. is better for (competitive) gaming, but modern TVs are generally quite suitable for gaming. If they weren't, lots of console gamers would be annoyed.

Do you have powerful enough PC to run games at 4K resolutions? If not, you will not see any real benefit by playing your 1920x1080 games on a 4K TV (or monitor).

I don't have experience in this, however it will always come down to a hardware issue.

4k has 4x the resolution of HD (double width and double height) so you have more pixels to work with. Because there's more pixels the video card (integrated just isn't going to cut it) has to be able to handle outputting that much data, with all of it's rendering, pre effects, post effects, and anything else it adds. Which may result in having a more expensive card, or a second of the same card if you can hook it up.

In many cases with consoles, they try to make a game look better but sarifice framerate, and some games i tried to play on 360 were 20fps or slower, i could feel how slow and sluggish it was.

While hardware is getting cheaper and a cheap 4k or VR solution will be avalaible for everyone, i think today is not the day.

I upgraded from 720p to 1080 not that long ago, and i must say it's fine. I may not rely on AA much, but the games look beautiful, it's a good resolution, and play fine. How much more i'd get from a higher resolution when i have trouble keeping up with what's already there i am not sure. But i don't see myself getting 4k for a while yet, until the hardware and everything matures. Even then i don't know. I'm not sure i see the point of going 4k. Needing less AA maybe, or you can play super high resolution porn, i don't know.
