Jethro Tull - Moths

As a flute/guitar player who likes prog, folk, and rock, I have to like Tull by law. xD (and I do)
Of Monsters and Men - Little Talks

It's hard because I like the band and all, and this song is gorgeous-sounding, but the lyrics remind me too much of a really arrogant, oppressive guy I used to be in a relationship with. So, blah!

It is kind of annoying how many love songs end up in creepy stalker territory. Part of the reason I like Somebody I Used To Know is because it plays with that. Giving the girl a voice totally changes the meaning of the song.
Sasquatch - Seven Years to Saturn ...
and other songs...

It's definitely one of my favorite Tull songs, I always preferred it when they leaned towards folk territory (although that's also partly because when they seriously strayed away from that sort of thing was when they, like many other bands, jumped the shark when the 80s started).

I agree completely. Somebody I Used To Know is a great departure from the usual love song formula, and Kimbra's voice really adds an extra layer. Gotye's lyrics still squick me out a bit (it's still close to home I suppose), but it's very well written and a good example of more sophisticated storytelling than that in most modern music.

...Aaand then the internet went and turned it into a meme.

I'd not heard of Tull before, so I'm definitely going to be looking into more of their music.

I love a lot of folk stuff, particularly music that manages to be its own thing while still being a part of the genre. I played a lot of Celtic stuff a few years ago, haven't picked it up for a while but still have an affinity for those genres.

You have to admit, it's kind of funny. ;P And yeah, I totally agree about the sophisticated storytelling of the song. Of course, for stories I'll always go for The Decemberists, but that's a different sort of storytelling entirely. x]

As far as Jethro Tull goes, they're probably the biggest folk/prog/classic rock band (not that that's a competitive field). They had a pretty wide range of sounds. My personal favorite album of theirs is Aqualung, which balances the acoustic stuff and the rock well, but if you want folkier you might want to check out Heavy Horses, or even some of Ian Anderson's solo albums. Also, depending on how you feel about Tull, you might also want to check out the early albums of Horslips. They sound similar to Tull, but more distinctly Irish. They had their own scale from to [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJqeZmj6X2Q]folk.

Thanks for the recommendations there! I've been listening to a few more songs on Youtube and I'm really liking them. I'll have to see how I can go about actually getting their stuff. I'll look into the other bands too — you've opened up a heap of new music for me!

I'm mostly just listening to some Pink Floyd. It's kind of funny, but "Wish You Were Here" always reminds me of someone very special. Even though I can't be with her, when I listen to the song it kind of makes me feel better about the situation. I don't know if it's sweet, or pathetic on my part. I guess it makes me feel like so long as I love her, perhaps maybe, just maybe, I am doing something right in my life. I find myself toying around with it on guitar or piano sometimes. >.> I don't know does that sweet or just sad? It is kind of hard for me to tell.
Can't stop watching this Georgian insanity.
Jean Michel Jarre - Equinoxe 4
My most recent band discovery has been Poets of The Fall, an alt rock band from Finland. I like them a lot, a bit Soundgarden-ish (or so people tell me, I honestly don't know Soundgarden at all), but I like them a bit more than most alt rock bands. and [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp0AHQooVSY]bam.

I've also had the new Eels single on repeat for a while, because I love Eels! New album comes out on my birthday! :D http://soundcloud.com/vagrantrecords/eels-peach-blossom
Yeah, PotF is a great band that also make great music for games. Just to name a few:

Poets of the Fall - Late Goodbye

Poets of the Fall - Lift

Poets of the Fall - War
I've gotten quite hooked on listening to this:
