ellynandroid: Of Monsters and Men - Little Talks
It's hard because I like the band and all, and this song is gorgeous-sounding, but the lyrics remind me too much of a really arrogant, oppressive guy I used to be in a relationship with. So, blah!
Gazoinks: It is kind of annoying how many love songs end up in creepy stalker territory. Part of the reason I like Somebody I Used To Know is because it plays with that. Giving the girl a voice totally changes the meaning of the song.
I agree completely. Somebody I Used To Know is a great departure from the usual love song formula, and Kimbra's voice really adds an extra layer. Gotye's lyrics still squick me out a bit (it's still close to home I suppose), but it's very well written and a good example of more sophisticated storytelling than that in most modern music.
...Aaand then the internet went and turned it into a meme.
ellynandroid: Oh my goodness, I
really like this. A lot. Thanks for posting the link to that!!
Gazoinks: It's definitely one of my favorite Tull songs, I always preferred it when they leaned towards folk territory (although that's also partly because when they seriously strayed away from that sort of thing was when they, like many other bands, jumped the shark when the 80s started).
I'd not heard of Tull before, so I'm definitely going to be looking into more of their music.
I love a lot of folk stuff, particularly music that manages to be its own thing while still being a part of the genre. I played a lot of Celtic stuff a few years ago, haven't picked it up for a while but still have an affinity for those genres.
