Elmofongo: As I made in a thread earlier I am getting into these 2D Sprite FPS games.
Is there something specifically about the 2D Spriteness that excites you?
I'm asking because I am the other way around. While I usually don't care that much for aging graphics and stuff, somehow getting now to those old "Build-engine" FPS games seems quite hard. I used to love Doom and Duke3D back when they were new, but ever since true 3D FPS games like Quake 1-2 or Unreal (or even Descent 1-2) became commonplace, I just couldn't really get back to those sprite FPS games.
It is something about the limitations how you can't look straight up or down, or how the view warps if you do that, or how they always have vertical autoaim... sorry, it just feels so fake nowadays for FPS games.
Outlaws was one game where I made an exception, for some reason I could see past its engine limitations in the emerging era of true 3D FPS games. Also, i really love the polygonal 3D engine remakes for e.g. Doom and such, I always felt they breath a new life to those old classics,
