New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

Where are the free gift codes? I can't find it in this new interface.

BillyMaysFan59: Aw shoot... well, I feel sorry for anyone who has them :/
it's definitely annoying, I stocked up after a blue confirmed that it was OK. I guess they persist because they were never redeemed

iippo: ...Search. Search button sucks - the old way of having search window where you type a games name and dont have to click anything and yet you see the games AND if you own them or not, is like 1000^10 superior.
I agree, new Search is a downgrade.

iippo: Gifts. I no longer see who has redeemed which gift. I only see "sent" gifts. Could you please return the "gift history"? Its very useful.
Also agreed.

Hopefully GOG is listening.
I'm afraid I'll have to add my voice to those that say that the website now looks, I dunno, the word isn't exactly hideous, but rather...Oh, scratch my attempt to be polite, it's ugly !
Another issue for me: regional pricing. What the...??? I look at the front page and see all prices in euros! When the "Good news!" announcement came out in February I thought that whenever regional pricing came, we would at least have an option to choose in what currency we would pay. And, for personal reasons I won't explain here, I prefer dollars ! And I get shoved the goddamn euro right in my face! Even with the "Last Chance" promo, when I go to checkout I see prices there in euros(even though the promo lists the prices in dollars) ! The wishlist also has a problem-when I try to put promo games in my wishlist, I get errors, and I finally managed to put them in my wishlist only on checkout! Also...movies? Seriously? Not that I have anything against them but, I don't know....Plus, they're in euros too!

At least the forum remained unchanged... for the moment. Who knows what they'll do to it...

P.S. Sorry if I sound aggressive but I'm pretty pissed off. I don't even know whether I should buy anything from the promo. And I wish GOG will give the option to people to actually choose the currency they want to pay in at checkout. Anyways, that's it I guess...
P.S.2 Just checked some other posts-GOG please also fix the gifts and wishlist tabs.

Why do you have to drop titles from the catalog?
I think that the front page is better now, however I don't like the new top bar. It is too high and makes me feel like I've just entered a hospital because it looks very sterile.

Just go to the bottom of the page and select "dollars" as your currency.

As for choosing the currency, you can choose on each game card or even on the main page. There is a currency selector near the bottom of the page, to the right :)

seems i got my gift history just back. ...still missing atleast the witcher codes i had.

gandalf.nho: Guess the "no regional price" guys won, but at the same time GOG lost a lot of good games with that...
avatar
Gnostic: Yeah, I would prefer user get the choice to buy it at a higher price or not at GOG. If the user don't think the price is fair just don't buy it or wait for a sales.

But take the choice away and make everyone unable to purchase it at GOG no matter what, I don't understand the logic. Is like if I don't like to buy apples from a certain store, I force everyone else unable to buy it. Still I hope the majority of GOG users are happy with their choice and think of the consequence in their future endeavor.
GOG stuck to it's principle and that's a good thing! Using your argumentation I could say "Why the hell aren't you selling games with DRM, too? I can choose whether or not I buy it then". Nothing I want to see on GOG.
Also you CAN buy the overpriced regional priced product. You'll get the pricing difference back from GOG itself. So therefore I'm totally ok with all of the new stuff. Well, I'll get used to the new interface anyhow.
Awesome!

BillyMaysFan59: One thing I noticed: all the redeemed gifts are gone. That's nice.
No, I don't think it is. I really enjoyed the ability to scroll through the redeemed codes and see when the game was gifted and who redeemed it.

@GOG: any way to reduce the size of that top menu bar? I don't like the amount of real estate it eats. Other than that, I'm pretty neutral to the changes. Some good points, some not so good, but nothing that makes me want to tear out the last remaining strands of hair on my head.

*edit* Never mind. The gift history just manifested.

Ingsoc85: Are you sure? I have a unused Torchlight code and it seem no longer valid.
avatar
VanishedOne: I've got one that seems to be okay, but I think an unused Witcher code has gone missing, along with giveaway codes from the Summer Sale where I already owned the freebies.
Yea, I lost a Torchlight code that was also a freebie from the sale.
Hope the confused state of the site now is temporary because a lot of things isn't working now or even worse than before. And I prefer the old visual of the site.

loki21: wrong. the regional pricing has not changed - read the original post. now it is just 'have some store credit to make up for it'

The games disappearing are something else.
Well, they say, before editing the news page, about pricing being the cause of this lot of disappearing games

Darklord666: New site-look looks o.k. to me but I miss the prices in my wishlist.
I don't really like the new looks, but maybe I can get used to it. Removing prices from the wishlist is still a downgrade and it's inconvenient when you don't know which games on your wishlist are on sale.

I was mighty pissed when I saw it too, but you actually can switch back to dollars. Go to the main page and look on the bottom to the right.

Fuck "mobile-friendly design": we are playing gog games on PCs; make the website for PCs.

(Yes I know you can run some games in dosbox on android but I really don't think many people are doing that).
