New features, local currency option, new payment methods, store credit, and an updated look for GOG.com!

For almost six years now we strive to bring you not only the best in DRM-Free gaming, but also to give you the greatest experience possible. To that end we're always looking for ways to improve our site and service. Today, we're rolling out a vastly updated version of our store with an improved interface, sleek new look, and lots of handy new features. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?

Video: Welcome to the fresher, better GOG.com!

First of all we are giving you more DRM-free content: movies! We are starting with 20 documentaries about internet and gaming culture but we aim high! You can find more on this in the appropriate newspost, so let's focus on the other features we're rolling out.

We wanted to give you more choice as to how you pay for things on GOG.com. Now it's up to you if you want to pay in US Dollars, or in the currency primarily used in your country, whether it's the Euro, Pounds Sterling, Australian Dollars, or Russian Roubles. That's four new currencies supported by GOG.com for your convenience. Still - the choice is yours, so if you want to stick to US dollars, just switch to it - you find this option at the bottom of each page. To make buying things at GOG.com an even more flexible process, we're introducing some new payment methods: Sofort, Giropay, Webmoney, and Yandex.

All this also means that users for whom the local currency pricing has been enabled will have an option to select one of two different prices for each game in our catalog. Of course, we stand by the simple truth that $1 does not equal 1€, so a game with a $5.99 price tag will cost 4.49 Euro, 3.69 British Pounds, 6.49 Australian Dollars, and 219 Roubles respectively. $9.99 translates to 7.49 Euro, 5.99 Pounds Sterling, 10.89 Australian Dollars, and 359 Roubles. In a perfect world we would apply the same method of pricing to all of the games we offer. However, things are a little bit more complicated, and there are some games in our catalog that follow a different region-based pricing scheme. However, we wouldn't be GOG.com if we didn't find a way to make right by the users who end up paying relatively more for such titles. Here's where the Fair Price Package comes in!

The Fair Price Package applies to all of the titles which we couldn't include in our standard pricing scheme. If you end up paying more for a game than its standard US Dollar price, we'll refund you the difference out of our own pocket. The refunded value will be added to your account in Store Credit in the currency of your purchase. That's right, no more gift codes, you'll be getting Store Credit that you can use to purchase anything on GOG.com or partially pay for an item that's more expensive. More choice, ease of use, and less limitations!

Finally, the GOG.com store has gotten itself a substantial visual revamp. We went for a fresh, mobile-friendly design that should make it even easier to find the games you want, notice the hot promos, and see what's new. The main page, catalog view, product pages, and checkout have been updated and also lay the groundwork for even more overhaul, coming within the next few months together with many of the GOG Galaxy features. We hope you like it!

PS. Unfortunately, we need to drop some titles from our classic catalog. In such cases, we always do our best to give you an advance warning and a last chance to purchase such games - preferably with a considerable discount. Check this news post to find out which titles are being removed from our catalog, when will it happen, and what parting discounts for them do we currently offer.

trusteft: If you are a woman of legal age, will you marry me? :p

Basically QFT.

I don't use the downloader and I will probably never use Galaxy since I prefer the download through the browser thing. I already HATE to use any type of client, be it anything like Steam or even lighter like what GG uses or that stupid thing that DD used to use.
I know GOG have said multiple times that Galaxy will not be a necessity for download or playing games, but I have seen in the past how things like this go. As long as there is any level of acceptance, once there is a foot inside, then it gets only a matter of time that a new system is either thrown out of the window or is enforced to everyone, with a myriad excuses going from "this is what we want to do so stfu" to "it's better and we can only afford to do it this way".

I am willing to give GOG the benefit of the doubt, but the second I am required to use any client or DRM in general, I will be out of here quicker than you can say warez.

STOP COPYING THE 800 POUND GORILLA. NOT EVERYONE LOVES IT.
It's like watching World of Warcraft. We get Blizzard making a very successful MMO, and for a decade 99% of new MMOs try to mimic the look and feel of WOW. Because obviously the people who want to play MMO wants to play games that look and feel like WOW. I mean, it's not like these people have any choice if they want to play a MMO. You know, like playing WOW!

Same with Steam.

Anyway, I will be there for you GOG, but if you try to backstab me, only one of the two of us will lose my money.
*blush* *blush* I'm really flattered by your proposal; alas, I'm male, AND I look (and smell) like an 800 pound gorilla, so I don't think it would work well ;)

But seriously, I have faith in GOG, if not in the management and staff, I have faith in the customer base. GOG tried to backstab its customers recently, when they tried to enforce the """fair""" regional pricing, but the customers' reaction was so massive and energetic that GOG's management had (at least partially) to take back that unwise decision. All this happened when they tried to take down the self-proclaimed 2nd principle of GOG ("one world, one price"). I'm confident that the customer base that, more or less, swallowed the horrible, new site design, would react en masse should the 1st principle of GOG, DRM-free software, be taken down, either tout court or de facto.

Either that, or we will be finding our Good Old Games elsewhere quicker than you can say "abandonware sites" and "DOSBox" ;)

Good night to all.

Good night to all.
I already am getting my games else where , the fact that the community here seems to have swallowed this shit stain new website is bad enough , but the contempt gog has shown to the very people that put them where they are is disgusting ... although it does sadden me, as I used to love this site like no other.

I don't know, I'm quite annoyed by GOG's new site, but at least it isn't an attack on GOG "core values". When they said they were giving up "one-world" pricing, I began buying all my games at the Humble Store, even if they were also available on GOG at the same price... but when they took back that decision, I even bought from GOG a couple of games that were "out of my budget", so to speak, just to show them my appreciation. The new site is 1/1836 times as good as the old one, ( that is, it's 1836 times worse - i.e., I like it MUCH less), but it doesn't harm the customers elsewhere than the eye and the ergonomic enjoyment of the site (unless I'm wrong, of course). But when it comes to more substantial things, the currency selector currently allows me to save a few cents on every purchase. It's a feature that allows freedom of choice, and I will go on praising it at the risk of being repetitive.

Sure, if GOG will go on following the "mainstream" philosophy at the expense of their being unique on important matters (DRM-free first), they can count me as an ex-customer (save from what I've already bought, that's MINE and no one can take it away without me having a biliary colic and saying a lot of dirty words to my monitor).

ambient_orange: Oh thanks for the link! I thing almost everyone know dislike this site, doesnt know about this vote!
You're welcome! :) Spread the word, the votes for the more 'critical' questions concerning the new design ain't enough yet.

Come on people! More votes, more pressure! The first questions have enough votes for now, they have picked already three of them, which they will answer in any case!
Btw, I don't want to make it bad or "steal" the new site from the users who get and got used to it so far;
I only want to clarify that the revamp wasn't swallowed by all of us and won't be forgotten that quick.
They could have done it a better way and make the new design optionable > who dislikes it, keeps the old style. "Fresher" and "better"-mode only for those, who think that gog.com really needs to be "fresher" and "better"! THAT would be da really awesome Gee-Oh-Gee-dot-com-style, yo... :)

How does this website redesign mean that GOG is abandoning its core values?

Uh... I don't know if this is at least partially addressed at me, but I clearly stated in my reply to summitus that "I'm quite annoyed by GOG's new site, but at least it isn't an attack on GOG core values".

If I misunderstood, I beg your pardon.

Please let me clear things up a little , I am more annoyed about gog's seemingly indifference to there users concerns, the lack of response to the negative feedback about the appalling new site design seems to be sticking two fingers up to the loyal users that have been around here for years , its as if they are happy to just stick their collective heads in the sand and hope that the problem goes away.
Unfortunately though , it seems that is exactly whats happening , leave it long enough lose a few customers .. so what... I thought and please someone tell me if I'm deluded here , that part of their " Core values " was listening to their very loyal user base about what they feel about the site etc .... It seems an insult to many of their long time " Core customers " that they are not listening.

There are other issues of course , like the regional pricing thing and putting stupid Movies on the site.

I'm sorry if it offends anyone and I do love gog , I have nearly 100 games on here ... but I am offended by their total indifference towards the thousands of loyal customers that have put them where they are today ... and to be quite honest ... they are behaving no better than Steam do at the moment. I used to really feel like part of a great online community here, but sadly I'm feeling it less and less by the day.

I'm sorry if my opinion upsets anyone , but that's how I feel.

Thanks for reading.

ThorChild: I've seen people talk about using scripts to get some of the old style for the GoG site back, but i seemed to have missed where you get the instructions to do that, and does it actually work all the time, or something you have to fire up each time you visit the site (as you can tell i'm pretty new to this!).

So any links to help me get the old style GoG back, as it seems this new style is here to stay, and i still don't like it as much as the cleaner, more relaxed original style.

HypersomniacLive: Have a look , you'll find several of the mentioned scripts and styles. <a href="http://www.gog.com/forum/general/welcome_to_the_fresher_better_gogcom/post1777" class="link_arrow"></a></div> <div class="quot quot_text normal_color "><div class="small_avatar_2_h"><img src="/upload/avatars/2014/08/2b12c9c19ef01a02051715999b290abb5b728efb_t.jpg" width="16" height="16" alt="avatar" /></div><span class="quot_text"><span class="quot_user_name">Wurzelkraft: </span></span>Sadly you can't reverse it completely but at least Barefoot Essentials 2 makes it tolerable again. Awesome thanks very much guys, at last i can have the real GoG logo back! Brilliant. (i clicked the '+' to rate your replies, so i hope that gives +1 rep?)
YES!!! New images viewer. Now it looks amazing. You're the best.
GOG logo is so unimportant to me, page design is so so, but if they FORCE us to use galaxy instead of the tiny, small and comfortable gog downloader, I'll strongly consider quit buying from GOG.
Thanks for all those great OLD classics, GOG!

I did complain here, and that is why i thank you here, too.

THANKS!

You don't have to tell us why, we all know why. After this new Grim Fandango Remastered-farce I am shortly before quitting this place
