75-80% off Pirates!, Bad Mojo, System Shock 2, I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream and more!

Yeah alright, so we like our games old-school. We like it raw, hard and dirty. We're going back-to-back on old school promos with a selection of eight games that are, simply put, some of the best we've ever had. Check out the Back-to-Back to Old-School weekly staff picks - with discounts at 75-80% off.

Sid Meier's Pirates! is one of the most recognisable pirate adventures out there. The classic edition might be over 25 years old now, but the concept hasn't aged one bit - and hasn't quite been repeated ever since. A complex world of gold to grab, ships to sail, and ports to pillage await - but if battle isn't quite what floats your boat you can always choose the life of a wealthy trader, settle down, and marry your sweetheart.

Almost too good to be a game--but as games go, it's one of the pest.--Entertainment Weekly on Bad Mojo, a revamped edition of the classic adventure that has you scurrying and exploring the world through the eyes of a cockroach. A Kafka-esque story story of a man-turned-cockroach sets out to give you a unique perspective on life and a new kind of freedom - to wander trails unknown to man. 800+ beautifully rendered screens of our world's icky underbelly await.

System Shock 2 the cult classic FPS/RPG Sci-Fi techno-thriller is completely unforgettable. It's not a stretch to call it one of the most terrifying experiences in gaming history. If you haven't had the chance to try this absolute gaming treasure yet, or if you're eager to revisit the dying citadel, now's your chan-n-nz-nzs-y-anc ERROR

There's more here, including I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Sid Meier's Colonization, Sid Meier's Covert Action and others in Back-to-Back to Old-School. The promo will last until Thursday, September 10, 9:59 AM GMT.

NoAGood: All those games are dated, but very good. F-117, Silent Service II, Gunship 2000 and so on. Spending a little time watching / reading tutorials helps a lot. Do the training missions also. Key cards help with knowing what keys to push for what and when.
Thanks for the info!

Now Gunship 2000 is a game I've always wanted to try! Here is the wishlist!

Nice promo, but I already have all the games that I'm interested in. But still, a lot of good games, dirt cheap.
Fall Insomnia is coming.............

Vythonaut: It sucks I know but if you can't claim a refund by following Grargar's advice, don't worry; System Shock 2 is one of these games that's worth it twice the asking price! ;-)
It's been great so far, it really is worth twice as much! I won't worry about the refund, as I feel like a jerk asking for one (only done it once for one game) :P

It was funny, I started hearing a lot about SS1, thought it looked great, so bought ss2. Played a while ( a little longer that what I probably should have :P ), went to bed. Woke up and seen ss2 in the news on gog, yeah I knew what it meant right away. I started laughing :D

But anyway thanks for the advice everyone!

Nice promo, and I own all I ever wanted from it.

Buy System Shock 2.
Just my two cents.
Can't get wrong with any of these games. (Un)fortunately I own them all already.
I vaguely remember trying System Shock 2 back when it was unobtainable new. From what I remember it was slightly awkward and interesting but not as gripping as it could have been.

For a 99p price perhaps I'll give it another go with the latest mods and see if ten years or so has changed my perspective on it.

Darklands sounds appealing. Many games of that era are difficult to get into with no in-game introduction and awkward interfaces, how does Darklands fair on that front?

By this point every current GOG users should have and played System Shock 2. It's an inexcusable error to have kept missing it.

On that topic, I went and bought it but I'm running into troubles while trying to install ss2tool. It gets stuck at "Sync exclude list is uptodate". I am running it from game directory and game is installed at its default path (C:\GOG Games\System Shock 2), which is 27 chars in length and is less than 80 limit prescribed by ss2tool mod. I tried searching the internet but couldn't find any solution to this. Attaching a screenshot. I'd appreciate any help I can get regarding this.

All missions are like that: you fly and destroy two targets, then engage in dogfight with several enemy aircrafts and try to evade missile defence systems. The fun comes from varying difficulty levels (which can be extreme in certain regions and with proper opponent settings). IMO it strikes perfect balance between a simulator and an arcade with some realism sacrificed in favour of great gameplay. You should play it with a joystick (keyboard is also possible, but not as much fun). I just wish GOG also included the original F-19.

For me the fun came from the tactics of avoiding detection. Find a hole in the radar grid, deal with different type of radar. Avoid visual spotting... I always preferred the "cold war" scenarios, where you mostly try to recon (photo-missions) or destroy single ground targets without being detected and play hide and seek with the CAP. Gets the heart pumping when you destroy your target and suddenly all the radar stations light up in full power and you have to sneak your way out.
