I'm quoting myself from another thread in Falcon subforum:
Just noticed that there isn't a thread about the latest version of Falcon BMS, and since every Falcon BMS vet should have been informed of the news by now, this post should be of interest to the folks who don't already know what BMS is, why they need it and where to get it.

Also, FYI, Falcon 4.0 (needed for the installation of BMS) can be found in the "Extras" section of Falcon Gold, which is included in the Falcon Collection: https://www.gog.com/game/falcon_collection

Has anyone tried Battletech or Metal Wolf Chaos?
Do any of these games have playable spellcasting robots? (To count, they must actually be decent spellcasters (by the standards of the game); technically being able to cast spells, while a requirement, isn't good enough.)
Into the Breach is a good game, much better than FTL IMO. I wouldn't call it a great deal at $7.50 but it is a solid game. It was in the recent coronavirus Humble Bundle (DRM-free even) in case anyone got that but hasn't played it yet.

The only other one I've played is Ironclad Tactics and I recommend avoiding that one due to horrible writing. The gameplay seemed too quick for me (it should not be listed as turn based IMO, while there are discrete turns they happen on a fixed schedule, no active pause). Also, it does not have a no-blood option so I didn't spend much time trying.

I liked Battletech even though I am not a fan of the universe specifically. It made me wish we had the first MechWarrior game here. It is one of those games that make time fly :)

So is the game like a tactical MechWarrior? Does it allow the user to save at any time?

Just picked it up myself, so far I can save at the beginning of my turn before I assign commands, haven't tried saving during actual combat yet.

It is tactical, although don't expect the complexity of X-Com: UFO Defense. Terrain plays a role but not huge (which is reasonable, since you are controlling huge mechs). You need to make decisions but they are individually less consequential. Most of the time you are facing multiple opponents so there isn't much variability in strategy (although in difficult missions it helps to have some plan). Combat is usually all about moving your mechs in the right sequence, focusing on enemy and weapons and abilities at the right time.

Still, the game doesn't feel "shallow" in any sense, I really enjoy it. I also like that I can read a very old guidebook for MechWarrior I and still find useful information there for this game despite so many years between the games and completely different genres.

You can save at any time but you normally don't need to, since you know what sort of resistance to expect from a mission, and most missions don't take that much time. One can control difficulty by taking easier missions if wanted.
I never save myself except for autosave before missions. I lost one of my starting pilots so far but carried on.

How is the GOG version? Does it work with an Xbox 360 controller?

I don't know how it's like compared to the others, but it worked fine on my laptop, although I did have to set it to use dedicated graphics card and not the integrated one.

Worked perfectly well with my Logitech controller, so it should theoretically work with that too. If you really want, I could try to test it out for you.
