Fogamer: For my part, when the downloader died I had decided to not buy from GOG again. Bye bye downloader == bye bye GOG.
Emotionally, I am with you.
But honestly, I still want GOG to survive, at least while they still provide good games DRM-Free.
Still, they cannot have it all their own way, so I have changed my goalposts.
I will still grab free games, and ones that seem really good value for money, but my price threshold will now be much lower. So I will be buying a lot less games.
There will possibly be exceptions like NAM, which has just become available here, and an old favorite of mine. I want that and 3 of the other four that were also released by that company. But the asking price is too much, especially in the current loss of the GOG Downloader scenario.
I will probably make an exception for NAM, because of the strength of my desire for a version supported by latest Windows, but the others have gone straight to my Wishlist.
It would be interesting to know, if their loss of sales will be covered by the cost saving some claim, for the removal of the GOG Downloader. Personally, I would be surprised if they make a significant or even any saving at all, so the exercise is likely to make them worse off. And they would have gone to significant effort, to remove and disable all the GOG Downloader stuff. Time and effort in my view, that would have been better spent fixing some of the outstanding long term issues here.
I've made a significant investment in GOG, so I have never until now, wanted them to be worse off.
P.S. One other change, is that I now don't use Galaxy at all, instead I use Free Download Manager with the Linux browser links, even though I currently have no way of checking those downloads for issues. Being mostly a Windows user, I really only grab the Linux versions for that rainy day scenario anyway. Still, one day I hope to have a way of checking Linux file integrity.
EDIT And I have also decided that wading through all 57 sales pages is just too much in light of how I am feeling. I am not gonna try that hard to find games I might want. So I gave up halfway, and even that was probably too much effort.
