Maybe I misunderstand, but say what? I've played it on at least 3 laptops, from an old Toshiba maybe a year or two after release (Omaha Beach mission was a struggle but it limped through) up to a Win7 unit with a GT555M.

Sorry, I failed. Now that you brought it up, money never really goes to waste when you buy games. The money simply changes owners. The game publisher can buy cool Christmas presents for their own kids with that money (or even games!), GOG staff get money to buy more samurai swords etc.
Now, if someone was really in a habit of throwing money into a barrel and a lit match, then I'd start yelling "You are wasting perfectly good money!".
