KetobaK: "DRM fucking the legit customers since the start"
That is the whole point of DRM in general tbh.

Pirates will pirate, people will buy buy the game to support them, then realise they get screwed over by either getting a certain number of installs on the same machine counting each time you re-install your OS, then the game getting delisted so it was a waste actually buying it anyway (Simon 5) as you can't do anything with a legit copy of it now anyway.

Or always online then your net cutting out at all and it not saving or you need to login in 2 times everything goddam time you launch the game (C&C4 on Steam/Origin.)

You pirate both of them Simon 5 works, (and you can still get it as its no longer sold at all) and C&C 4 you only have to block where it contacts to in your firewall.

How companies don't realise DRM hurt the customers more than the pirates is beyond me. And how GOG seemed to be behind this message yet seem to be dropping it on their store front and with their own games is also beyond me.
So it's a somewhat false information then. Sure, you can play the game, but without online connection you will not be able to get the access to all of the content you have paid for.

Oh no, GoG. Please. Stop this trend while is still enough time. Don't allow more publishers to doing this thing. Without your last pillar there is nothing what makes you unique!

Exactly, DRM is the worst of the industry, let's hope GOG keep this away from the store, but we have to stand up and do everything we can to make sure the store stays DRM Free, we have to fight back and make some noise so those who try to introduce DRM here will hear us.

I mean, it's a Digital Rights Managment measure, you are looking content behind an online check, you have to be online so they can verify you own the content, it's a minor thing but still is present. A DRM Free store should stay that way in the more and the less.

It's up to avoid this, we have to let the ones that try to steel the best of this store know we don't accept this kind of treatments, if you have problems with the DRM in Cyberpunk communicate with CD Project Red support (I will help you and do that right away), not with GOG, they are the store, let the developers know you are against that, I'm with you in this too.

Oh no, I think you misunderstand me, I'm not trying to boycot GOG, I'm trying to help them and make they work easy, it just take some minutes of my time and, besides, it doesn't help me at all to attack the guys that are trying to help me to solve this problem in the first place. I'm not offended with GOG, I'm offended with InExile, they are the developers and the one that put this measure in their games, not the store that sells them.
GOG Support always treats me with respect, listen to my problems and gave me hand when I needed it, and now they are with me trying to solve this problem, if I boycot them is like shooting myself in the foot.

Actually it is gog's fault since it's their store.

Truth007: Actually it is gog's fault since it's their store.
We have to remember that everything is human work in GOG, people can mistake or overlook some things, they create a lot of games installers and update a lot of games too everyday, and are a really small team for that task, the important is that they are trying to fix it, even if it is a small thing. So it's more their mistake that their fault.
For example, if you have a market and I (as a yougurt producer) sell you expired yogurt, knowing that it has expired, I do not warn you, and you sell it, it is not your fault but my. The correct is that you

You know, each market place that sell food has an employee who is responsible for checking product expiring date. Anyway, comparing food products with digital goods is irrelevant.

You should understand that there is no mistake behind this, they know what they are doing. In publisher perspective - it's a protective measure against illegal copying. Storefront owners (if they want your money) have nothing else to do rather than to accept the deal conditions. So that's why they sell digital goods with drm. The only thing you can do as a customer is to vote with your wallet and telling about it on forums, so they know that they are loosing buyers. Unfortunately it cannot be effective since the people who tend to make such demands is minority.

The question is what is the solution ?

Not sell a 50+ hours RPG (or an 100+ hours space sim in case of X4) because of a bunch of optional cosmetics require an online check ? Or sell the game here but without said optional cosmetics (which is basically what was done before Galaxy and is basically what you get now if you use the offline installers)

It's honestly ridiculous how publishers can pull that kind of crap and get away with it. GOG is a store for (presumably) DRM-free games and if your game has some form of DRM you have no business selling it here.

You justneed to look in forums and how many people will defend GOG and you that „this little thing“ is not part of the game and may other excuses so that there is actually no drm here. And most of all, it is never GOG‘s fault!
That is why we will get more and more „not drmed“ games in the future. Only a minority (which is sad) will act. Most people will just buy so that they can play, no matter how many loops they have to jump through.
