Hello GOG Community,

We have some heart-breaking news to share: Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II will be leaving the GOG store on December 13th, 2024.

As many of you know, at GOG, we believe that games should live forever. It’s not just about preserving them—it’s about making sure these timeless classics remain accessible, updated, and playable on modern systems. That’s exactly what the GOG Preservation Program was created for. But, even with our best efforts and dedication to game preservation, sometimes things don’t go as we’d hoped.

Seeing these masterpieces leave our store is tough, but it also serves as another reminder of why our mission at GOG is so important. With that in mind, we’ve decided to update one aspect of the GOG Preservation Program’s policy:

Going forward, even if a game is no longer available for sale on GOG, as part of the GOG Preservation Program, it will continue to be maintained and updated by us, ensuring it remains compatible with modern and future systems.

We're incredibly proud of our work on both Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II, bringing them back to life after decades of unavailability and introducing several improvements to ensure the best possible experience, as close to the original as possible.

Although we’ll soon no longer be able to offer these games in our store, anyone who purchased them before they were removed will still enjoy the most compatible, high-quality versions, guaranteed by the GOG Preservation Program.

And because GOG is DRM-free, you’ll have lifetime access to your Offline Installers. That means, even though these games are being delisted, you’ll still have them safely stored in your library forever, ready to play whenever you want. This is what these titles—and you as gamers—deserve.

To all of you who support our mission of preserving video game history—thank you. It’s not just about the games themselves; it’s about the journey we’ve all shared as gamers. We’re honored to continue this journey with you.

With appreciation,
The GOG Team

Please note:
If you want to buy the Warcraft I & II Bundle and keep them forever in your library, you can use the checkout code: MakeWarcraftLiveForever

The discount code works on 2 USD, 2 EUR, 1.5 GBP, or 8 PLN off, only on the Warcraft I & II Bundle, when entered at the checkout. The code works only for the listed currencies, which – if at a different location – can be easily changed at the bottom of our page.

Each user can only use the code once.
You can buy them as part of Remastered BattleChest on BattleNet store: you get i suppose backported from GOG releases of WC1, WC2 Bnet along with remasters of them and Reforged +Deluxe DLC.

I have same assumption for EA App Origin releases. Eg Theme Hospital. It have alternate Launcher to GOGDOSBOXlauncher.exe but sinceit comes after GOG and put same system requirements i believe its just GOG minus GOGs launchers. Steam sometims have exact GOG build sometimes only few leftovers like webarchive.zip file. Never bought Origin versons - maybe there is even webacrhive.zip.

Same sys.req on BattleNet. I believe same Warcraft 2 Bnet exe for drm-free. It have GO SP zoo digisign for both _Bnet and _Bnet_DX exes. Maybe Bnet Store have identical fil, or replaced digisign but in HEX it would be identical. Its not like nowadays digital store get official drm-free exes even if there was such i old times. So it was GOG who cracked Bnet from disc DRM. And BattleNet version most likely took that GOG crack.

Just remove or partially remove GOG launcher and DX folder.

Whatever. GOG version is more complete, with own forked DX wrapper, and better as real DRM-free proper 100% offline setup. If they identical and even setup identical = GOG is better as it is not BattleNet. Kinda subjectively it sounds, i know. I just doubt someone disagree with me in 2025 (now). At release here many Blizzard fanbois (they haved them still 6 yrs avo) whine here and on blizzard forums way it is on GOG and not on BattleNet shop. Now i doubt it is such many ppl there.

PookaMustard: I honestly don't get the point of rewarding devs/pubs whose games are leaving GOG at the last minute, and especially as blatantly as Activision Blizzard has done here. But it is over already.

Fark-9191932: You said my exact similar thought and very much eloquently.

dedicado: No, it's send the message that we want their old games and DRM free, but not their new games full of DRM. It's not the ideal solution, but it's what we can do.

Fark-9191932: They do not caring and your message is being only trash to them.
They do care about money, and losing customers means losing money.

I know they usually try to force unpopular moves just because they think they won't lose that much money, but sometimes it backfires on them because too many customers get angry and force them to backpedal.

Nice going, you lept into a thread from last year just to try and get a last word in on someone who posted [checks watch] Near Christmastime of Last Year!
I am lucky that I bought it before. I really wish it would have not been removed.
Argh,

I definitely missed this announcement.. I came looking today to buy it and wondered why I couldn't find it because I swore it was on GOG...

Probably the first video game my brothers and I really got into playing against each other.

It was on GOGm but then Blizzard it in favor of selling it on their site in a "remastered" version.
Don;t bleme GOG, nothing they could do about it.
