Enebias: Why imposing a limit on the use?

OneFiercePuppy: Because it gets progressively harder on your books to keep debt like that. To you, it's your money waiting to be spent, but to the company, it's a debt they actively owe you.
That's exactly the main reason. Please, note that a lot of people, who are not using wallet, may not be even aware that there are some wallet funds on their accout. In such case there will be growing number in company books - with no idea what to do with it in 5, 10 or 15 years.

TentacleMayor: I have both purchased wallet funds and fair price rebate funds, and they're all valid indefinitely.
That's interesting, because I have always some wallet funds and I also often buying games with some cashback. But I've never seen any distinction. How should I know if there are any expiring funds if I can only see one number with "valid indefinitely" label?

Desmight: If the last funds you added came from fair price, you see their expiry date.
I don't, though. The last funds added to my wallet balance were from fair price from a game purchase with Paypal. I already had some purchased funds, but the latest funds are definitely from fair price.

My wallet is in € and it has an expiration date of 11 May 2019 (because some fair price funds were added to it last week). Weird though that your expiration date isn't reported, it could just be a bug or something else. The wallet funds that come from fair price always have an expiry date, no matter the currency, it's explained in the rules of GOG. Maybe the wallet now reports the expiration date of the "first" funds you're gonna use if you use your wallet.

BeatriceElysia: It weren't before. Now wallet founds are valid for one year.
Actually this has always been the case.

First, wallet funds are administrated per currency. If you use different currencies, be wary of Fair Price Package funds been unspent for a long time. (This is mostly an aside.)

Second, Fair Price Package (FPP) wallet funds have always had an expiry of one year from the last time your FPP balance was updated (by a game purchase adding FPP wallet funds). The expiry is refreshed any time you make a purchase that gives FPP funds.

Third, if you have purchased wallet funds directly, the full amount in your wallet doesn't expire, until you have spent all of your Wallet funds. Any FPP Wallet funds added by the last purchase which would reduce your balance to zero, will be subject to the one year expiry.

All of this was in the Wallet FAQ before the support pages got changed and the info is available here now:
