IwubCheeze: Thanks for letting me know that. I thought FO3 did require a Steam account considering Valve and Bethesdas relationship. I'll keep this in mind as my backlog gets closer to completion :)
If it was released later, then it would. :P (As seen with Fallout: New Vegas).
It doesn't, though. I have a GOTY version of the game that requires no Steam at all.

I can confirm, Fallout 3 retail does not requires Steam, but required GWFL.

Grargar: It doesn't.

ashwald: It's Fallout New Vegas that requires Steam.

MMLN: Fallout 3 disc used GFWL. But I think the latest patch might have removed it. Even if not, there can be found safe workaround for that garbage.
avatar
ashwald: From what I remember if you don't allow the game to autorun and start the game installer yourself it will ignore GFWL and not install it. Dunno about the GOTY edition though.
Main problems with F3 GOTY are lacking support of Windows 7 (and newer OS) and instabilities due to GFWL, but at least you don't need Steam. Just install a) the Mod that completely removes GFWL from the game b) the 4GB Patch that allows the game to use more memory on 64 Bit systems, and c) the Unofficial Patch that fixes many bugs, and you should be fine.

It can be skipped.

Or disabled
But it present by default, that's all I meant.:)

<snip>
Although I never been fan of Fallout 3 or Bethesda at large, Fallout 3 works normally on Windows 7, both 32 and 64 bit, and there are no instabilities due to GWFL (I use offline profile).

IwubCheeze: Glad I don't have a Steam account .......................*sigh*, but I do want to try Fallout 3 one day. What to do, what to do? :(
avatar
Grargar: Buy it on disc. Problem solved.
That may be solution for Fallout. No such luck with Skyrim, that one is tightly married to a steam account as far as I know. I was tempted by it several times, but so far, I have resisted. Good thing that my GOG backlog is large enough to do without, if Bethesda doesn't want my money.

Glad I don't have steam account too, but still, the temptation is there.

Fun fact: in the Polish version GFWL was removed to begin with.

And get a proper launcher like FOMM
lol DRM is pushing it and pushing it, to see how far they can go before people have enough and people have been taking it up the ass to see how far they can take before its enough

Well me and tens of millions users of Steam out there have never been affected by Steam's DRM negatively. But yes, tens of millions are small numbers I think. /sarcasm
