"The market is dead," Boll said. "You don't make any money anymore on movies because the DVD and Blu Ray market worldwide has dropped 80 per cent in the last three years. That is the real reason; I just cannot afford to make movies."

MaximumBunny: LOL. "that is the real reason" - good one. No, if you put them up digitally even and no one's buying them then it's definitely cause not enough people actually liked it. :P
That's just his way of shifting the blame. God Forbid he takes responsibility for his own shortcomings.

blotunga: Kumbaya. although i have to admit that I kinda liked the Dungeon Siege movie. It was a decent action flick.
Several people are saying the same. I should probably watch it then (I assumed it was as awfull as the others)

Damn, and I was hoping so much for Blubberella 2.
Was he truly making films to begin with?

Maybe we should come up with a term for an Uwe Boll movie. Crapfest? Shitstorm? Howthehelldidyougetsirbenkingdleytostarinbloodrayne?

doccarnby: Alone in the Dark was fucking garbage though. I hear the second one, which wasn't directed by him, was better, but that's also not exactly a difficult feat.
The way I remember it, it was the other way around. But to be fair, it's been a while since I've seen the first, and I'm not sure I ever saw the second one in its entirety, from intro to ending credits.

Lifthrasil: His movies were never meant to be successful or good. Nor were they meant to be the 'so bad it's cult' kind of trash. Their only aim was to be flops, so that his investors could deduct their 'losses in the name of art advancements' from their taxes.
Boll wanted to make entertaining and socially aware films. Watch an interview with him. He just failed.

Sir Ben was also in Dragonheart 3. He's more washed up than De Niro.

"Uwe Boll retires from film making"

Finally! His films were atrocious, and the money invested in them can go to someone else with much more talent and love for the art in Germany.

Darvond: Germany's Law must have closed the loophole.

No loss.

doccarnby: A couple years ago, actually.

His Dungeon Siege movie was shockingly ok. The low end of ok, admittedly, but still. I've actually heard somewhat decent things about Postal and Rampage.

Alone in the Dark was fucking garbage though. I hear the second one, which wasn't directed by him, was better, but that's also not exactly a difficult feat. I remember reading an interesting article about a (the?) screenwriter for that movie where he talked about how he wanted to make something close to the original and Uwe Boll demanded car chases and shit in the first couple minutes.
It had Tara Reid playing an "intelligent" role. TARA. REID. That AITD movie was always going to be ass. >:|

A failure to understand his audience... This seems to be a common theme with a number of companies.

Kingsley and DeNiro probably just likes to be able to pay their mortgage. Not all actors can just wait for a blockbuster to fall in their lap.

And Thunderbirds.

Washed up or not, every great actor has some unbelievable turds on their resume.

De Niro is worth around 200 million dollars and Kingsley is no pauper either. These guys don't need money, they just don't know what to do if they aren't working. I don't get it. If I had that kind of money I'd buy a beach front mansion in the Caribbean and just sip piña coladas all day for the rest of my left. Joe Pesci had the right idea, he stopped making movies and just golfs these days. That's the way to do it.
Too bad. I was hoping Tommy Wiseau and he would start a collaborative project.
Oood riddance to Uwe Boll, and his wildly unjustified sense of arrogance. Let's just hope that if a customer complains about something at his restaurant, he doesn't react the same way he typically reacted to any criticism of his shitty movies!
I am glad.
