So I just tried updating my Linux laptop(an Asus from 2009) to Kubuntu 14.04. But now it boots to some kind of strange grub-rescue screen with the following message: "error: symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not found"

I have a Ubuntu 14.04 liveDVD so I tried Googling for a solution but the various suggested command like sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc have various errors of their own.

Any suggestions on how I can solve this issue?

Edit:

A command called boot-repair seems to have fixed it at first glance.

I think one of those upgrades gave me this issue, but not sure if it was (x)ubuntu 14.04 or 14.10.

It was my fault, though. Some time prior to the upgrade I had installed another disk and moved the entire system there. The old disk with the old content was still installed but supposedly dormant. In actuality I had goofed up, and grub was still being booted from it. When the system was upgraded to one with a newer grub, the booted-up old grub suddenly found itself incompatible with the parts of the new one in the filesystem.

Or something to that effect, I didn't really memorize the details. My grub2-fu was weak so I had to find a manual on another computer, but it didn't take long to fix.
