When you receive a GOG updated notice. Is it necessary to re download the entire game to get the updates? What ever happened to "Patches"?

No,there are patches.....

Sometimes, there are patches and other times there aren't. It's all pretty random.

GOG compares the size of the individual patch and the installer.

If it's a relatively small patch, GOG will provide you with a separate patch file.
If the patch gets too big, they'll just integrate it into the main installer, because it won't make much of a difference.

GOG does not have a universal rule on how they go about updates. Though if noticed lots of new installers, that's mostly due to GOG making their installers Galaxy compatible, while a number of titles are also affected by the unbundling process that's going on.

Like others have said it depends on the patch, but personally I prefer getting a patch vs having to DL the whole game again (capped connection)

If an update does NOT have a patch, and you must DL the entire installer again, do you need to uninstall before reinstalling, or can you install over the original?

I wish the update notice would also indicate which OS version of the game is updated. Sometimes just the Linux version gets updated and I'll have no idea since it defaults to the Windows tab.

hi i just saw this topic and i had the same question, there are a few games that have more updates (version numbers) and are quite big
my question was if it is okay to delete the older and keep the latest versions cause with many games having unneeded doubles my extern usb (1TB) is clogging up very fast

i see 2.0.0.10 and 2.1.0.16
if one is needed i can delete the others, i have a few games that have 2 or 3 updates/pathces and are quite big

normally i assume that the latest update is only assumed and the previous can be deleted
sometime however you neet to aplly pathces in order, to get the latest build, this was often the case in many retail games cd) that i bought.

It's important to distinguish the difference between updated installer and patch. When a file's name begins with "setup", it means that it's a stand-alone installer. If, on the other hand, it begins with "patch", then it requires the game to be installed, before applying it.

In your case, you have two stand-alone installers, with one of them being slightly outdated. You only need "Setup_broken_sword1_dc_2.1.0.16.exe" to install the latest version Broken Sword - Director's Cut.

"Setup_broken_sword1_dc_2.0.0.10.exe" is unnecessary, take up space and you can just go ahead and delete it.
