Free Content Pack 01: Hidden Dreams

Some time ago, Team Cherry announced a series of Free Content Packs heading to Hollow Knight – a great big cherry on top of the deservedly beloved and stylish Metroidvania. The first of these – Free Content Pack 01: Hidden Dreams – has just dropped.

To celebrate the update Hollow Knight is also getting a 34% discount for one week!

So what does the Free Content Pack 01: Hidden Dreams get you? See below for the official info:
2 New Bosses – Leap into battle with the mightiest foes! These epic new duels will test even the most skilled of players. Each fight grants rewards to the victor, though note: Engaging with each imposing boss is entirely optional! Who are these enigmatic, impossible-to-discern figures? We’re not telling! It’s up to you to find out!

2 New Tracks – Epic battles need epic music and Chris’s been preparing just that, with stirring new boss themes for each encounter! He's gone all out on these ones!

New Upgrade: Dream Gate – Discover a whole new method of traversing Hallownest! Slice through the Veil and travel in an instant from one corner of the kingdom to another.

A New Stag Station Uncovered – Hallownest’s stages once traveled the breadth of the kingdom, but with the departure of the King, one station was walled away, hidden from bugs and forgotten by stages, until now!

The discount will last until August 10, 5PM UTC.
Still no Galaxy Framework integration?

Any ETA on cloud saves and achievements for the GOG Galaxy version?

Liosan: Hi,

there is a know issue resulting in "Disk access problem" for some very specific game updates, this is top priority for us right now. In almost all cases Verify/Repair should fix the problem.

Liosan
It didn't. I had to uninistall/reinstall. I got the same error after verify/repair and it downloaded the whole patch AGAIN, then failed AGAIN. So I uninstalled and reinstalled. That worked.
So should I get Hollow Knight or Slime Rancher for the weekend?

Well... both are great games, but from very different genres. I guess it depends on what you feel more like playing in the upcoming weekend.

If you're looking for a hard but very rewarding metroidvania, then Hollow Knight is your choice. If, on the other hand, you just feel like chilling and relaxing while farming cute slimes, go for Slime Rancher.

Both have amazing art, both play very well and in an extremely fluid manner, both will consume a lot of your time (for different reasons), so I guess they both could be great recommendations for a weekend or vacation but, again, it all depends on what you're looking for -- or feeling like.

I know we're on the Hollow Knight thread and you probably wanted people to tell you the reasons why you should pick this game over Slime Rancher, but the truth is that they are both really amazing games, for very different reasons, and I guess it's mostly up to you which one to get (or play, assuming you already own both).

[EDIT] Also, Hollow Knight can decidedly by a bit melancholic and depressing with its bleak gothic hand-drawn art style, and Slime Rancher goes the exact opposite way, being a very happy-go-lucky, uplifting game by design.

Mithrandir-KCh: No discount on Hollow Knight Soundtrack Edition?

On Steam both editions have discount.
A Steam + GOG Bundle would be awesome :)
Even though i'm not big on metroidvanias & castleroids (although Symphony of the Night is one of my all time favourite games), i'll definitely buy me a copy later; it looks whimsical and every single review i've read praised the quality of the game in every aspect. Thinking i'll most possibly enjoy it all the way through, i see no reason to wait for a better discount. Also, glad to see added content served free of charge; kudos to Team Cherry!
Well, the sale worked for me. I bought it and played a couple of hours last night. Impressed so far.

Like groze said, they're very different. Hollow Knight is a meaty, atmospheric metroidvania that you can really sink your teeth into, while Slime Rancher is more upbeat and accessible. It's all about what you're hoping to get out of them.
Hmm looks lovely. is this game better with controller? (is keyboard control viable?).

You don't need analog controls and both work fine, so it depends on which of the two you prefer playing with.

Please let me add something then. Yes, keyboard is fine but mouse rebinding is not supported yet. So if you want to play Hollow Knight you can either play it with keyboard only or gamepad. There were several requests to add mouse rebinding as well but it has not been implemented yet. You will need a third party tool like GlovePie to rebind keys to mouse.

For those who are interested, you can get the two new music tracks for free here: I actually really like these two new music tracks; they're at least as good as the original boss music tracks, perhaps even better. I note that they have more of a full orchestral style, as opposed to the original music that focused heavily on strings and percussion (though other instruments were still present).

(I still haven't actually tried playing the game, though I have listened to much of the game's music.)
Nope, am sorry, really dont get the hype on this one. I spent most of my gaming time yesterday wandering around the same first area wondering what the feck I am supposed to be doing, finally finding the boss and defeating that, then not knowing where to go next. I then look online to find the next path which is virtually hidden. Passing through into that area I get through, finally finding the map (I mean surely basic feature?) and get to som pink ghost who repeatedly kills me, and as the only save point is the other side of the map get to pleasantly spend some hours tracking back over the same level time and time again. This is not fun. Not to mention I have no clue as to what the point of it all is or what the story is supposed to be. Shame as controlls aren't too bad and graphically its ok.
