These three are interesting. I might have the opportunity to get one of them.

Who can give a brief comparison and recommendation?

Thanks

I tried only Underrail but i can say its pretty hardcore apocalyptic nuclear-mutans ridden harsh underground RPG. Once you dive in prepare for giant rats, massive killing, poisonous insects, psychic monsters (really) and death behind any corner.

Freaking hard, but sooo interesting.
I can speak only of UnderRail. Hard game, requires much free time. Prepare to get lost a lot due to the absence of map. Other than that, the gameplay is great. Graphics are very detailed. Soundtrack is good and really adds to the already great atmosphere. If you like Fallout 1 & 2, you'll definitely like UnderRail. Don't expect the same level of writing or quests or even memorable characters (you'll most possibly be dissapointed on that account) but expect a lot of enjoyable combat with a great combat & character levelling system that requires planning ahead carefully. It also features a stealth system that works very good.

To wrap up, it really is a polished, hardcore, unforgiving, oldschool cRPG. And it's f***ing great! :)

edit: Regarding Exanima, take a look at all the reviews here on GOG. Some say there is something *fishy* going on. The last one, someone posted a review on Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/id/paid_didnt_win/recommended/362490/

I can't really comment on it personally, but before you decide to buy Exanima, it would be wise to check out a reviewer (website/youtuber) you trust.

UnderRail is very good. Balrum means well.

If you liked Fallout 2 more than Eschalon, go with UnderRail. Vice versa, Balrum.

No idea about Exanima.
UnderRail for 4/5 of the game. The ending area is crap, but everything before that is GOTY material, even though it's brutal hard.
i have enjoyed exanima quite a bit these days.
Being a Fallout 1-2/3-nv fan, I find graphic design of Underail to be way sub par to Fallout 2.
Also it has no miniguns and already mentioned absence of minimap.
Underrail is awesome and has such good reviews for a reason. Balrum was a meh game that tried to do things a bit different, not sure about the other one but the feedback isn't the best. For the price vs gameplay you can't beat Underrail- many people have 60+ hours in it and more exploring and trying different builds out.

Thanks all!
You get the answer for linking to that very helpful review of Exanima.

Looks like if I get one, it will be Underrail.
I have rather high hopes in Exanima, once the full version is out. It reminds me games like Dungeon Siege. Underrail looks quite a lot like Fallout or Shadowrun. So it's probably medieval vs sci-fi/postapo or Balrum which seems to have combined base building/crafting with something like Sacred. All 3 projects look interesting.
Underrail i'd go for, balrum is a mixed bag of bad combat and house building that really doesn't need to be in the game.
Second play thru of the game i found no reason to bother with it...it is a ok distraction but nothing more.
It's also generic as they come with fetch quests galore, nothing new to offer but a mediocre romp thru.
Character builds are dull too, mage, archer, warrior..yadda.
Underrail has a ok story, gfx aren't anything special but do the job, not a difficult game i found...tho other have said it is.
On the other hand Exanima is way too difficult, finding frustrating as hell, and much to my own shame have abandoned it for now, just struggling with how combat works, on the plus it's pretty and has bag loads of atmosphere..wish it had turn based combat. You may well find it's more your thing....

lol, solved while typing :/

Good to hear - this one is on my short list of games to grab soon (TM).

Interesting to see the impressions of Balrum. That one caught my attention as well (I actually did like the idea of building out a purpose built farm / home base) but it sounds like it isn't well implemented. I actually wanted it to be a meaningful activity but it sounds like the game suffers a bit from feature bloat.

yeah, i actually like the look of balrum too, but one complaint i had noticed was that the resources (including enemies and animals) were permanently exhaustible so eventually you'd end up with a nice base and powerful character, inhabiting a very barren and lonely world..

If you like Underrail and Zomboid, which games would you also recommend?

Forgive me but i don't think i understand your question....
Neither game has much in common, if you mean what would i recommend because i like both that you mention, then that leaves a vast scope of games................but for now, i'd go with Subterrain, Grim Dawn, Torchlight 2.
Many others but will refrain just in case i'm way off course with what you are after.
