Howdy folks,

I'm looking for a notebook/ultrabook to do my gog gaming.
Mainly I play point and click adventure games on the sofa with headphone while my wife watches tv.
So I prefer a smaller sized notebook/ultrabook.

My questions are:
- What do you think is a good size? 11, 12 or 13 inch? Something else?
- What specs should I look for? Most point and click don't need high specs but some like STASIS do require some higher specs.

Biggest problem is pricing, I don't have a very large budget and most smaller ultrabook are expensive.

I would also love to know what other point and click players use except the traditional pc setup.
So basicly any suggestion or alternative or advice is very much appriciated!

What point and click games you play?
I was using a Samsung NC-10 netbook with Win7 Starter before (and still do occasionally), and because it didn't run as well anymore after a few years, I was looking for a replacement. I'd have prefered a netbook sized screen again, but the current netbooks and tablets in the low/mid-range price class didn't convince me at all. The netbooks I've seen seemed pretty inefficient, low RAM, too slow even for handling Win 8, and I guess it would still get worse if you wanted to actually browse the "net" with them and used Firefox while running Anti-Virus software in the background (not even talking about gaming here!).

So in the end I went for an actual notebook, but I got used to the bigger size and weight pretty quickly (I think the old netbook was 11'', the notebook is 15,6''?). It's still good enough to use on the couch or on the train, the only thing I miss is that low resolution adventures like those by Wadjet Eye Games looked better on the small screen, but the upside is that I can play much more demanding games on the laptop now as well. It's a HP notebook with Win 8.1 64-bit, Intel Core i3-4030U (1.9GHz 1.9GHz), 4GB RAM and Intel HD Graphics Family GPU (I forgot how it's called exactly, but seems similar to the HP 350 G2). That seems to be enough for most adventure games, and even some action games, and it didn't cost me much more than the netbook had cost me, around 300 EUR (but I think it went up in price afterwards). So far I didn't have any issues with adventure games except for Fran Bow, which for some weird unknown reason had serious graphical glitches on the notebook, but I guess that can happen to you with any game, if you're unlucky. Not sure if it's due to the game requiring a more powerful rig or just incompatibility to some random components ...

The games that do run on it include Broken Age, Technobabylon, Deponia, Edna & Harvey, Chains of Satinav, The Critter Chronicles, The Wolf Among Us etc.

EDIT: Btw, what I learned during my search for this notebook is that you really have to pay attention whether those note- or netbooks are set up to allow you to keep aspect ratio. I know it should be possible with any rig in theory, but several I tried had the pre-installed drivers so messed up that it would have been a pain to try and get aspect ratio to work. If you're anything like me, you don't want games with lower resolution (like the Wadjet Eye Games) to be stretched and distorted without any way to change that (apart from manually reinstalling your OS and/or drivers). Unfortunately, this is not something that you can find out by studying the notebooks' stats, only by trying it out. Very frustrating. Luckily the vendor where I finally got my notebook helped me check it on the exhibit in the store. (I guess this is mostly an issue with OEM pre-installations, so if you want to install your operating system yourself anyway, just disregard the advice.)

Welcome chrisds, nice to meet another point and click fan. Great list of games.

Can't help with your question as I only play on pc.
I own an Asus EEEPC900 (that is a Celeron 0.9Ghz, 1GB RAM, 16Gb SSD, Linux OS) and it can run flawlessly the older point & clicks. Last year I finished Fate of Atlantis on it without any problems whatsoever. I guess anything identical or better than EEEPC900 will serve you nicely for old school p&c.
13 inch is pretty decent
and if you have an intel hd 4400 card or higher ( think iris or hd 530 )
your laptop is actually quite capable of running higher profile games

basic specs are i 5\7 with a ssd and 8 gig of ram and an intel hd 4400 or higher video card
aim for that

13 inch is the better choice because these things can run in hd and higher and if the screen is too smal you end up squinting half the time to try and sort out the mass of pixels

You don't really need an ultrabook (as the thinness generally increases the price).

You can go to a general store like Media Markt and get an ASUS laptop for 400€ (they don't do netbooks anymore I think) and for that price, you're well covered for everything in pure 2D. 12inches is fine (bigger means heavier on your legs which can be bad for long sessions) but for laptops, I would suggest to avoid those with 1080p resolutions as for applications, it can be quite hard to read (just try using the Blender interface on this ^o^). 1366x768p is good. Apart from Statis, the other games on your list will surely run well.
