So I came across this today. I'm curious to hear people's opinions on this. Ubisoft is saying they in rare instances, they may immediately close inactive accounts to comply with local data protection legislation.

I have Uplay account I rarely touch but sometimes want to play one of my games from Uplay. What if you never get noticed from them?

The whole description
Please be reassured that Ubisoft does not automatically close inactive accounts.

As part of our Terms of Use, in rare instances, we may immediately close inactive accounts to comply with local data protection legislation. This is only if we have strong reasons to believe that the account in question will remain unused.

We may also close long-term inactive accounts to maintain our database. You will be notified by email if we begin the process of closing your inactive account.

If your account was flagged as inactive and you would like to keep using it, you can cancel the closure of your Ubisoft account.

You can find the link for the cancellation in the Ubisoft email that was sent to the email address attached to your account. Please check your spam folder as well if you are unable to locate it.

Accounts that have any purchase on them are exempt, even if it's just one game.

Syphon72: Please be reassured that Ubisoft does not automatically close inactive accounts.
Their words that they "don't do it automatically" are worthless considering exactly those same words are in their Terms of Service:-

8.2: "We may suspend or close your Account and your ability to use one or more Services or part of the Services, at any time, automatically and at our sole discretion where... upon notification, where your Account has been inactive for more than six months."

https://legal.ubi.com/termsofuse/en-GB

Edit: And they may *choose* to not delete accounts with at least one paid game but their actual legal contract / Terms of Service says nothing about making an exemption for that, and only mentions "Content" as in "You cannot use the Services and Content (games) anymore", "you'll lose your save files", etc. So I wouldn't trust them on that too much as if they did delete accounts with paid games, there's zero legal comeback to that.

No they are not.
We have had people come on this forum who lost all their games and it was irreversible.
The last bloke was over seas at the time the email came, and because said email account was only used for games, he never checked it while he was working overseas.

Source? I don't see confirmation of this in their TOS

Agreed
what counts as an inactive account?
If only there was a way to preserve access to all the games you buy and download, no matter what.
Hm, let me check my old Uplay account.
2-3 years ago, I redeemed a gift-code for some old Assassin's Creed game, but didn't even play once afterwards.

----------
Hey, I'm back and happy to report that my account is still there (incl. all my free/gifted games)
Last accessed in April 2019 (!). LOL. Ubisoft, you rock. ❤❤❤

IGN posted an article with an email from Ubisoft confirming this.

Well it says here that it's an account with no paid games nor any active subscriptions.
