F4LL0UT: I read "gambling porno".
Wouldn't that be like strip poker and lesbian strip spin the bottle?

The holiday sales themselves have gotten a bit too long to really maintain my interest. It's great that they have them and they aren't bad sales, but they go on for ever and it's hard to justify buying anything early on in case there's something better that comes a long later.
i'm actually more pissed off about the low discounts of that sales lately than about the duration. i have the impression that most discounts tend to go from 80/75% to 60/50%. the same happened to steam years ago!

I can't argue with that, I was more willing to take a risk on a game that I wasn't sure about when the discounts were more like 80% as that meant that most games would be dirt cheap. If I didn't like it, I didn't have to play very long to feel like I've gotten my moneys worth.
gambling promos are more bullshit than regional pricing.

How's that? In a gambling promo you can decide yourself if you are willing to take the risk. With regional pricing you don't have a choice (except when you circumvent the system by using a VPN).

Gambling promos are good for the people who already own a lot of games here and want to get some of the rest (either the expensive ones or the regional priced ones) for a low price. In the last promo I got games like Blackguards, Dreamfall: Chapters and Republique for $3 each and I just got one game that I already owned (Machinarium).

I don't see any other kind of promo where I could get those games for such a low price.

so you're avoiding regional priced games. if a regional priced title is on heavy discount (at least 75%) and you want that title, would you still not buy it?

Yes, I only buy them when they are not regionally priced (or at least not regionally priced with higher price points than the US base price). I can live with regional discounts for poorer regions (even if I don't think that the ones that get the discounts at the moment are the right ones).

For me it's not about the money (there are many games like Hard West or Victor Vran that I would have bought day one), it's about priciples (principles that GOG once shared) and I won't support a pricing model in which people from Australia and New Zealand get a discount while some poor Eastern and South-Eastern Europe countries have to pay the highest price worldwide or in which people from Africa have to pay three times more than people from Moscow.

A regional priced game with 75% discount is still regional priced, so it's a no-go for me. I'll get these games in bundles or in GOGs gambling promos where the price is the same for everyone (or where I can pay what I want).

And before anyone says that the game isn't more expensive, because we have the fair-price package: It doesn't matter! Buying the games with the fair-price package would still mean to support an arbitrary pricing model and would send a complete wrong signal to the developers and publishers.
Insomnia sale with procedurally generated offers.
