_ChaosFox_: The trick is never to pay too much for your games. I seldom buy games for more than $10, almost never buy them new.

Looking back through my orders, the only games I've paid $10 or more for are:

Pinball Gold Pack for $10
Alan Wake for $15
Alan Wake's American Nightmare for $12
La-Mulana for $10
Divinity 2 for $20
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams for $13
Medal of Honor for $10
System Shock 2 for $10
The Chaos Engine for $10
Risen 2 for $12
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky FC for $17
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC for $20
Agarest: Generations of War Zero for $10
Ys 6 for $13
Forgotten Realms Archives Collection One for $10
Forgotten Realms Archives Collection Two for $10
Pillars of Eternity for $24
Grandia 2 for $11
Grand Ages: Medieval for $10
X-Rebirth for $30
The Saboteur for $10
Mirror's Edge for $10
Spore for $12
Dungeons 2 for $11
Tropico 5 for $11
Xanadu Next for $17
Corpse Party for $11
Little King's Story for $16
Fallout 3 for $11
Fallout NV for $11
Oblivion for $11
Turok 2 for $14
Dragon's Dogma for $14

I also bought Witcher 3 and Divinity: Dragon Commander for €50 each, but those were on disc with a GOG code enclosed.

Given that this is over 8 years, I find that shows considerable restraint, all things considered :)

(I think this list is also fairly indicative of the fact that the vast majority of indie games really don't interest me, which is why my purchases have been dialled back a bit over the past couple of years)
I usually wait for $3 bucks or less on most, although I will go up to $5 if I really want it bad. Only ones I bought first day was Doom and Oblivion.

The average price I pay here is $2.88 per game.
I have over 1000 games in GOG.
I have 213 games on GOG so far, and I already feel guilty :-D

_ChaosFox_: Some perspective.
Even more perspective

You're right though, the trick is never paying too much. I rarely pay more than a couple dollars. Occasionally more for games I'm going to play immediately or for games/devs I really want to support.

I cleared out my steam library when I thought 200 was too much.
Well, here's the first room. :D

At around 1000 games, you just stop caring and don't fret about your increasing backlog anymore.

That's why I've decided to convert to buddhism because they believe in reincarnation, I will just continue playing my gaming backlog in my next life. No matter if I am reincarnated as a dog or an ant, I will find a way to continue playing my games.

_ChaosFox_: To be fair, most of those "Steam Store" games are €0.50 ones I picked up during Steam sales for shits and giggles. The vast majority of stuff on my Steam account is bundle games. I haven't had a meaningful splurge on Steam games since 2012.
I never understood that mentality though. I have a friend on Steam with 4,198 games. Most are from bundles or the same "below 50 cent" stuff. He obviously has played only a very slim amount of those games. Most are bottom barrel crap which you might never touch or maybe just play for 5 minutes and i don't get it.
Is it just too show off "look how much i own"?

My library ain't that small with 925 but i take somewhat pride in it that there's only a very minimal amount of indie shovelware with the majority either being classics or highly rated modern games.
But with those and the 390 on gog (- stuff from connect, i don't count it) and 21 on Origin i also have the problem of too many games :D

No, it's nothing about showing off. It's the simple fact that I like PWYW bundles, because even if you buy a bundle of six games that are absolutely useless, there's a reasonable chance that you'll have one that will unexpectedly appeal to you that you wouldn't have otherwise bothered with and which had no media coverage, was unfairly maligned by the press and was largely ignored by the gaming public. Games like Spy Chameleon, Funk of Titans, Wizorb, all of which I probably wouldn't have otherwise touched but ended up not only enjoying and playing through to the end. I hardly ever bother with Indie Gala or Groupees nowadays, as the quality of the games is not only poor but abominable today, but in the days of Indie Royale and the early Groupees stuff, you could expect some interesting stuff.
I only have one steam game. I just stick with GOG,.. plenty enough for me here.
At the current rate of availability to play games, by the time I get around to playing it, it's no longer for sale. The beauty of the digital world. <sigh> So I grab when on sale in hopes I'll have a chance to play later. Sure, some I'll likely not enjoy, but I see it as my own little, private museum of goodness.
