Was going through the list, meaning probably for the 3rd or 4th time to write which ones I played at least, and just noticed that you wrote Deux Ex.

And that said, let's see:

• Deus Ex: Played and finished. And really liked it even though everything would have pointed towards a strong dislike, since I normally can't stand shooters or modern/near future/dystopian/cyberpunk settings, so whatever you want to call it, it shouldn't have worked. But it did, largely because I played it as an RPG, not a shooter, hardly ever got in a firefight, with a sniper/hacker who snuck around a lot and meleed enemies from behind, even sniping being rare. And the story pulled me in.
• The Devil Inside: Can't count it, but I started it, then said nah. Not entirely sure it wasn't just a demo really.
• Diablo II: Will count properly next year, since I played with LoD installed. And finished it, but hated just about every moment. With LoD I'd consider it one of the worst games I ever played, at least considering the aims and production values. Without the expansion's additions, I'd consider it utterly unplayable.
• Escape from Monkey Island: Played and finished. The new fighting system was much worse than the insult-based one, the switch to 3D didn't so it much service either, and overall worse gameplay than CoMI. But did have its good parts too. Not entirely sure, but might have been the last adventure game I played for several years, maybe more like a decade.
• Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed: Played and finished. And really liked it, making it another odd one out, since I think I just played three other driving games, and those were much older and I was a kid. But advancing through the ages and upgrading your cars and caring for them, damage being expensive and all, brought layers that hooked me.
• Nox: Played and almost finished. Either something I couldn't figure out or a problem with the, er, high seas edition I had made me unable to get past something close to the end, but did enjoy it up to that point. So another odd one out, being an ARPG. Not touching Divine Divinity, which is "the" ARPG of that style for me, but I think the only other one I enjoyed.
• Sacrifice: Can't count it, just started and said nah. Just the... feel of it rubbed me the wrong way.
• SimCity 3000: Unlimited: Not sure about this one. I probably played SimCity 3000, but whether Unlimited or vanilla, can't say, and there's also a chance it was actually SimCity 4. Should be easy enough to determine between 3 and 4 by watching a playthrough for a while but for some reason never did in all the years since I've been wondering. Between vanilla and Unlimited 3000 though, doubt I remember enough to be able to tell. Either way, was all right, but still preferred 2000.
• The Sims: Played it thoroughly. Not sure you can call it finished, but as far as it went, for the vanilla game, I got there, multiple times... While at the same time rather just going through the motions, and in part also because my gf (then...) played it a lot too and we compared things and talked about it.
• Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption: Played and finished. And also enjoyed. Nice mix of ancient and modern, but of course I much preferred the old part, rather pushing through once it got to modern times, but still enjoyable, and a good implementation of WoD.

Cavalary: • Deus Ex:..
I never played it, but I believe it is intended to be played as an RPG ratther than an FPS. I really gotta give Deus Ex a playthrough. I loved playing Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. Played them as stealth, so this one shall be no different!

Cavalary: • The Devil Inside:..
I think I played this one a bit back in the day. I remember not liking the controls at all, and so I dropped after a few minutes.

This one was awesome! Shame is not available on digital stores.

Finished Episode 1 of Daikatana yesterday. I didn't remember much of the game, so it was like playing for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The first two levels were the worst ones. But after those, the levels get much more interesting, but also weirder. Going from a prison to a crematorium to a meat processing plant(!) makes the Mishima's headquarters something else. IMO the atmosphere is great and I really like the oppressive feeling of the place.

Also, the soundtrack is really good.

With this episode done, it's time to travel to Ancient Greece....
Daikatana's Episode 2 done.

Great departure from what came before. It's like you're playing a another fps: different environments, weapons and enemies. The thing that keeps this being Daikatana is the story and enemies/sidekicks bad AI :D.

The levels are wider, more colourful, which makes a great contrast compared to the previous episode. However, I felt this one was easier, since most of the enemies rush at you instead of firing weapons. Having multiple Discus of Daedalus made this a breeze.

Overall, another enjoyable episode for me. Now it's time for another time travel adventure, this time into 560 A.D Norway...
And another one:. Episode 3 is completed.

The dark fantasy theme of this one was another departure from the previous episodes. Everything changed once again, which to its credit, keeps things fresh.

This one was more challenging than Episode 2, but not always for the best. Especially if we consider that part of the difficulty spike comes from the fact that your sidekicks become useless from level 3 onwards (and it's not because of bad AI). I can only imagine what a pain this Episode can be without patch 1.3!!

In terms of atmosphere and background music, this is one of the best episodes IMO. And while playing it, Ii got some Clive Barker's Undying vibes, mainly because of the snowy environment and the time travel aspect of it. Which is funny, because Undying came after Daikatana.

Anyway, time for the last time travel jump, this time to 2030 San Francisco.
That's a wrap: Episode 4 completed and with it Daikatana as a whole.

I gotta say that this episode might be my least favourite. Some levels can be confusing to navigate (mainly the first 3 ones), it feels the most generic of all 4 episodes and it was the one where I had the most problems with the sidekicks AI.

Overall, I had plenty of fun with Daikatana. IMO, I don't think this game deserves all the hate it gets. Of course, playing with patch 1.3 is a must. I think if a lot of people give it a chance, they'll end up surprised in a positive way.

It plays well, it has a lot of variety in terms of levels and weapons (which are cool to use), great music and it's old school fps. On the other hand, it has bad enemy and sidekicks AI (even with patch 1.3) that can be frustrating at times, some confusing levels and the story, although IMO is cool, it's not well executed at times. However, this last point might be because it's a product of its time, where storytelling was not as big as it is today.

Could Daikatana be a better game? Absolutely. But taking into account all the troubles during its development, I think what we got its still worth playing.

Congratulations one more time. You sure took this as a challenge, and made it with a day to spare too :)

Will you continue with the 2001 thread next?

Yes! I've already compiled the list of games. I intend to create the thread for it on March 1st.

Oh, nice. Means I'll be able to participate in that one rather by default, since I'm still playing Diggles.

ciemnogrodzianin: And let me bring some music hits from 2000 – youtube.
Some nice hits here, but let's be honest – the golden era of 90s seems to be over! :D
A lot of them look like they're from the middle of the decade.
For example tracks from 2000 would be Eminems tracks The real slim shady and Stan,Ms. Jackson - Outkast, the bad touch - bloodhound gang or Darude's Sandstorm.

§pec†re: That's the problem with looking at those release dates. The jap version is said to have been release a couple of days before 2000 and the english versions came out just before christmas 2000.

It's worse for threads like these on other forums which focus on general media with different release dates for music or movies in different regions.

bluethief: I just noticed that I listed Shenmue in the 1999 thread.
I know dates can be tricky with different regions and sometimes wrong info on databases.
My point is that most people here would have been playing it around christmas 2000. :)
