It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

lemonised: So I suspect clicking that link redeemed on my account.
Receiving a link for an account login is not something you should automatically expect. I suppose it might be technically possible to make a link that logs you in without exposing account login details. In general, the safe thing to do is to always manually log in.

lemonised: Anyways I suspect I gifted to my son but the email link redeemed on my account. That would explain all the scratching heads.
No need to suspect, you can get a definitive answer by making the check I mention in my previous post.

my name is catte: if GOG was emailing out link that automatically logged anyone into a specific account...
I agree though on Steam you click the link and it says "activated" etc. and it instantly appears in the library. Doesn't GOG store current session information, My guess it's possible the session hadn't expired after the gifting and therefore when I clicked the link in the email it redeemed on my account.

Don't suspect what you can easily check:

1. Login to GOG through internet browser (no Galaxy)
2. Open https://www.gog.com/account/settings/orders#
3. Check the gift code ID and compare it to email

Here is the example how it should look like for the recipient (your son) >>> See how I removed personal info and left only date and gift code (redeemed), in your case I suggest to also remove the code just in case.

And here is the example how it should look like for the gifter (you, the father) >>> Here you can always know which exact account get the game.

Ok, so as a new user that's what it means...the gifted game appears to have been added to my library
"ADDED TO ACCOUNT"

Odd that it allowed a duplicate game. Either way I now know what went wrong, what they and myself can do to prevent it happening again.

Not automatically logging in but surely to the login page then and log out if currently logged in or different email address / account. Also like how you'd verify a firefox account etc

something like
"https://www.gog.com/redeem/CODE&your.emailaddress@a.a"

It's not, in your case it's the bug for which they should return money or even try to transfer the game to your son's account.
I have updated my ticket with my findings. Thanks all for the help in identifying what happened.

venomised: Just a short rant. I bought 2 games during the summer special and tried to buy and GIFT another copy of the game to my son. Payment said successful and then a day later it said failed.

In the meantime I downloaded and installed GOG Galaxy - ZERO games to install but on the web it showed 2 for my account. Somehow they appeared in GOG Galaxy a few days later.

I tried gifting again to no avail and soon the summer special ended. I only wanted 2 copies to play with my son so I requested a refund or the discounted price. Weeks past without a word from support.

Eventually and thankfully they gave me a discount code. 2 days ago I paid, gifted it and signed in with my son's account, activated the gift code - all seemed good.

Now...On my account I only have one game in my list - the one I gifted. All other games are gone. On my son's account the games list is empty. Try activate the gift code again and it's in "used".

Install GOG Galaxy (fresh windows) and on both accounts there are ZERO games to install.

I don't have an issue with the human - support element, it's this unreliable software and experience.

When buying and gifting games legally is such a frustrating chore it's no wonder pirating is so appealing. As is we wanted to LAN during the holidays and missed out. Now a long weekend and again nothing. So so frustrating.
Contact GOG and fix the problem. https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us?product=gog

teceem: What are you talking about? No offline installer (latest version) has ever been removed here. Every game has one (except maybe for Gwent, I don't know).

Fender_178: I know that all of the games that I own on GOG have offline installers. Recently within like the several months or so I downloaded the majority of the offline installers for my games.
They all do.

The only thing they remove is the old versions. You cannot download an old installer instead of the updated version - if there was an update to the installer, only the new version is available.

nightcraw1er.488: Unfortunately with the big push for client this and client that the simple easy use of products is slowly being removed and issues like this arise.

Sorry, I don’t seem to have phrased that right. I don’t mean any installer has been removed, mean the way people think about installing things from installers is being lost. For instance those posts which start: I am using my GOG and I press play and it doesn’t work.

I don't know if GOG should be blamed for that. Some companies can remain small, others just have to "grow or perish". And "grow" means: attracting a broader customer base - people that only play games because they have become more "accessible".

Sure, there's a lot about it that I personally dislike. But on the other hand, some games that I like having DRM free would never have appeared here if GOG was still the same tiny company it was 10 years ago.

Yeah we can only guess what has happened. My best guess is that something went wrong with the payment (ie. GOG didn't receive the money after all) and they retracted the games. Or something.

I don't know why GOG hasn't replied to your ticket. At least I got a prompt reply (within a day or two) last week when I asked about technical problems with the Gothic Armada game in Windows 7, and I got pretty fast replies to my further correspondence.

Why do people post this fake nonsense?

Complain, be happy, or anything in between; and all at once. Many things in life aren't just black or white. ;-)

teceem: So you've had a bad experience (oh the drama!), and now you're threatening GOG with piracy if they don't solve it quickly?
avatar

lemonised: How can I go about using the offline installers? Where would I get the serials for said games? In my example my purchase history shows 3 games. My games list shows 1 - which I gifted. On my sons' account it shows 0 games - yet I activated the gifted code on his account.

Lastly for clarification, the account I'm posting from now is mine, his was above. I didn't sign out after checking his games list.
The offline installers should be there after you bought the games in your library.
