I feel so hopeless. Monday night I heard this awesome song on the radio, but the bloody presenter didn't say what
the title was before moving onto the next song. It's definitely very well known, but I don't believe I've ever known it's name.
Now I've got a bit of the melody stuck in my head, which has since been contaminated with Ballade Pour Adeline which I happened upon when I tried to search for the song.
It's beautiful, and I think it might have been part of a film soundtrack from, I would guess the 80s/90s and if so in all likelihood a romance film. It's mainly piano as I recall, but with some other instruments (electric guitar I think) giving parts of the song a distinct late 80s-mid 90s feel.

And it's an instrumental piece without any words.

One part of it repeats the same melody, echoed immediately after by a higher note version. Something like:

du----du---din-dn-diiin --> followed by the same thing at least a whole octave higher (almost sounds as if it's done with small bells), and then the whole thing repeats again.

And then towards the end something like:

di-di-DUUUUU-di-DUUUUUU-di-DUUUUUU <--- kind of the climatic part (still played with piano I think) with some accompanying instruments in the background. Come to think of it, I believe an electric guitar provides aweome backup here.

Does anyone know what this is? Or am I just losing my mind?

EDIT: So turns out it's from St. Elmo's fire

1.) you are posting on GOG, check
2.) You are posting for music on GOG, check
3.) You are expecting gamers to know about music, check

Do I need to say more? ;)

Did you check (if they have it) on their home page? Sometimes they do show which songs and so on have been played.

Edit, spelling mistake (blush)

^ This
Or you could try to sing it to that (uh..) website that finds music.
I'm using the Soundhound android app, for these things. There's also Kazaa, I think, and some googlethingy.

Maybe some of these have a website with an online version, which Phaolo seems to indicate ?

Or better still, sing/hum the song and upload it somewhere so we can all hear it.

Maybe we still won't be able to help the OP, but at least we will have some laughs. :P

Yeah I'm onto you! But luckily I am one of the few people who can't really sing/hum a song and am blessed enough to know it. I can whistle ok though.

Of course, I was suggesting that mainly for the laughs. xD

There you go, then! Whistle for us, baby! :P
What was the radio station?

Most of the big stations here do lists of played songs on their websites, that's probably your best bet.

I don't really know a lot of instrumental music so I doubt I could help...
OP reminds me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQ4c54rCJ_k

Wish I could help but no songs come to mind, does it sound 80's, 90's etc?

I can't. My mic is, uhm, broken. Yes, that's it...
http://www.guidingtech.com/8572/identify-song-by-humming-tune-using-3-web-apps/

These might help? (well, the first and last, Shazam requires a recording of the actual song)

The last one allows you to use a keyboard to play the melody rather than having to hum or sing.
I just gotta know what it is now....

Holy shit I found it! I seriously doubted whether this radio station would have such a good website, but it did. I quickly learned that at the time the were indeed playing film soundtracks and one of the composers who's music they played was David Foster.

It's the Love Theme from St. Elmo's Fire
