Crosmando: Maybe because of the twit trying to shill for EA on the forums. Explain to me how this thread is anything other than advertisement.
That would be Elenarie. The OP's just pointing out that Theme Hospital is free on Origin.

Honestly, you're making yourself look like more of a dickhead than usual with your conspiracy theories.

What conspiracy theory, it's not "free" unless EA are offering the game in some offline installer straight from a website. It's a honeypot to get more people to install their DRM platform.

Most freebies are a honeypot to get people involved. GOG's freebies are a honeypot to get people to sign up for a GOG account. DotA 2, Team Fortress 2 and Alien Swarm are freebies to get people to sign up on Steam. If you don't want to keep using Origin, just download the game, zip it and delete Origin. After all, the Origin version is only the exact same DOSBox version that GOG offers.

Just don't forget to zip it.

Doesn't the DOSbox executable come with EA DRM on it? So you can't play it without playing it first on an Origin account? Still the problem is easily solved; find any other Dosbox game on your PC, get the executable of that Dosbox game, then put it into your EA Dosbox game, and play forever.

Not that I'm aware of, and while I'm not sure if DOSBox falls under the GPL version 2 or version 3, but if it's under GPL version 3, attaching DRM to the DOSBox executable without getting permission from the DOSBox team would consistute a violation of the DOSBox EULA.

Besides that, as you say, it would be pointless to do so. I know for one thing that the DOSBox provided with Origin's version of Syndicate is also DRM-free. I haven't bothered checking the Origin version of Theme Hospital because I play the GOG version through Galaxy.

Well I did run into the trouble of DRM on Dosbox. I solved the problem via the fix I provided above. If I remember well, it was for SimCity 2000.
It was on the house before so a lot of people already have it
I'm still seeing Red Alert 2 on the house, is this a time zone thing?

Edit: Went directly to the store page and it does say that it is on the house but back in the regular spot for on the house games there's Red Alert 2 even now.

Thanks for the heads up. Took a bit of time to get it to scroll to the bottom.

I don't think he qualifies as a shill just because he's pointing out that a game is offered at no charge on a platform that some people may be comfortable using (or already using). I have Origin installed and haven't suffered any ill effects.

Ah, indeed.

Well, seems a little silly anyhow. You can just copy out the game directory and run it in your DOSBox installation of choice.

So is all DRM. I was lucky I had another Dosbox game somehow, probably Beneath a Steel Sky or Teenagent. Damn, I want to focus more on the former instead of doing other stuff.

Well, to be fair, it's not like you actually NEED another DOSBox game to copy it over. You can simply download a vanilla DOSBox installation from the official DOSBox website, or you can download a frontend like D-Fend Reloaded and import the game directory directly.

By the way, in case you're not aware of it, I can strongly recommend D-Fend Reloaded if you play a lot of DOS games other than the ones here on GOG.
