Hycinthus: Did you try these
3) Then,
Go to the game folder / bin / x64 and delete or rename galaxy.dll... Launch the game, a error dialog will pop out but the game actually runs.

4) If all fails, reboot PC, some found this worked for some of us.
I swear to God I did every thing you said, even got the pop up warning! rebooted my PC. but still simply the game is working in the background,
Attachments:
I had the game on my D: drive and when i run gog galaxy client it said insufficient disk space (i have a SSD for my boot drive) so i went into settings and changed the gog locations from C: to D:

closed galaxy and launched the game manually and it loaded

I'm sorry. I also think that this is a temporary solution, even for me. I'm gonna wake up one day, and this error is gonna bite me in the ass, if there's some update error or something.

I hope there is a formal fix coming soon.

How about uninstall the game? You have the game downloaded already so no need to redownload all 24gigs.

Just uninstall galaxy, and uninstall the game, and reinstall manually using the .exe file
Same for me. Uninstalled Galaxy, killed the services, game still won't start up.

I will not re-download the game using galaxy as my internet is both slow (3mbit) and has caps (200gb).

With so many other people having problems, I'd guess another patch will be out in short order, so I'll try again then.

Figures the first time I pre-order something in many years, it has problems.
Thanks people for trying to help us.

to CD-Projekt Red,

this is ridiculous. i want to play the game, without the need to study computer-science in the process.

I think re-installing the game might be a fix. I just have to go to work in 2 hours I don't really have the best time now. it's okay, I can wait till a fix come from CPR. I'm sure they are looking into it.

Hycinthus: I think the problem comes up for people who tried to use GOG Galaxy , installed it, tried download, then gave up. Then tried manually.

It doesn't happen to people who sticked with Galaxy all the way through. Or manually all the way through.

It's the ones combining both methods?
It shouldn't really matter because no matter how you install it you should end up with the same files installed and set up the same. I did pre-download through Galaxy and run it from the Galaxy client successfully the first time without a hitch, but it runs fine without Galaxy and I've set it up in Steam client now and launched it from there too (to get an FPS counter and be able to take screenshots and broadcast the game to friends to watch). Works, works, and works. :)

It is possible that mixing things up may have caused a problem for some folks though, I'd just recommend to clear everything out and reinstall and make sure there is plenty of disk space. Download the standalone installers if you aren't sure if things will work via Galaxy for you or not so you don't have to download it multiple times if something goes wrong though.
May or may not help some, but I couldn't get the game to work either, until I realized I download my games to Program Files x86. After transferring them all to the standard, x64, Program Files Witcher 3 will now work. Not entirely sure why it would matter, as either way the system is x64, but it worked in my case.

Definitely something with galaxy though. Because I changed the name of galaxy.dll, and now the game launches. PReviously it crashed and never launches.

indefinite_rage: I just installed patch 1.01 3 times and the game still won't fire up. Click the application file directly in the folder and still won't do anything.

I don't see anyone else with this issue, so I figured I'd post about it.

Currently re-installing the game.

Thankfully I didn't delete the install files...

Well, that's really weird! I never deleted/changed any Galaxy files, having installed manually, and the game worked fine, apart from my reboot that is.

as i stated before. There is no mixing up in my case. I downloaded it manualy, i installed it manualy. and it doesn't work.
The deleting of the galaxy.dll in the The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\x64 folder gave me an error on startup but the game does run. Shouldn't have to do this tho, update please.
