I just noticed that The Witcher 3 pre-order pricing on GOG.com right now is listed as $46.99 crossed out and discounted to $37.59 "you save $9.40 (20%). This caught my eye and made me do a double-take because my memory recalls the game being listed previously as $59.99, with a pre-order discount of like 10%, and then an additional 5% off for each Witcher game you already own on GOG.com. If I recall correctly it gave me 20% off for owning both games and the offered price ended up being $47.99. I just had a look around and for whatever reason can not find any reference to that now.
Anyhow, the price showing on http://www.gog.com/thewitcher3 for me now is $46.99 regular price instead of the previous $59.99, and the 20% discount now brings the game down to $37.59 as mentioned above, which is a full $10.40 cheaper than what it was originally offered for. I'm in Canada and as far as I'm aware this is all in US dollars (always was, and it shows USD at the bottom of the page as well with no other currency to choose from).
So my questions are simply:
* Did CDPR lower the non-discount regular price of the game officially and I missed an announcement about that?
* Will people who bought the game previously have the price adjusted for supporting CDPR early or is it just pricing lottery like everything is in life?
I have not yet ordered the game, however it is cool of course to see the price drop on a game, especially one you are interested in and which is highly anticipated in general, but it's also unusual to see the price of an upcoming game advertised and then reduced at a later date before the game even comes out so I am just curious if there was any announcement or information about this and some quick searching didn't yield anything useful. While it's cool to see a price drop, it also makes me both glad I did not already pre-order the game and more likely than ever to never pre-order any game - because even good things can happen before a game is officially released that one might become disappointed over if they ended up paying more to be the first on the block to look at the new wallpaper or avatar icons or whatever. :)
Normally for a $60 game, you don't see a price drop like this until 6 months *after* it is released, and often then only if the game didn't end up selling as good as the publisher anticipated.
I hope CDPR isn't having financial difficulty and needing to stimulate cashflow via a price drop due to the game being delayed.
Discuss.
