It was worth.

toxicTom: Actually the combat in Witcher 1 was liked by many people, since it was "rhythm turn based" and pretty intuitive. Witcher 2 combat on the other hand was either loved or loathed, I detested it at first, and found it really clumsy.
Yep, that's me - I loved the combat in the first Witcher. Hell, I love everything about that game. Probably my favorite RPG ever. Witcher 2 on the other hand I absolutely detested when I first played it, and the combat was the worst part of it. I used to call it Witcher 2: The Quickening, after the infamous Highlander sequel.

mtysaka: Hello!
I bought The witcher and The Witcher 2 for 4.08€, my question is: Was it worth?
For the price you paid, yes. Great deal. While it is up to you whether you enjoy the game or not, TW2 IMHO is very well worth the price you paid for it.

If after playing it, and you enjoy TW2, consider getting The Witcher 3 if possible. When it goes on sale, it has been offered at a very good discount from normal pricing.

tomimt: The first game hasn't aged very well, if you ask me, though I've never been a huge fan of it as I find it technically a tad clunky.
Weird hair and tedious fetch quests. o.O

iirc combat of the first Witcher game was widely disliked anyway...I don't get why they used such a simplistic rhythm system in an rpg.
As I understand it, combat in the 2nd game (which I can't play and is therefore no good anyway) is different and even more action-like.
The first Witcher was done with the Arora engine/toolset, the same one that BioWare used to make NeverWinter Nights 1. It was directly licensed from them. The original rule set for that was a combat round/turn system that was based on the rules for Dungeons and Dragons 3.0, much of which was hardcoded into the engine itself.

The 2nd game was an entirely different engine and that is why the 2nd has a more fluid combat system than the first.

IMHO Both have their good and bad but the stories of each are compelling enough for you to overlook the quirks that are in the engines for each one.
Witcher 2 is probably my favorite rpg. But it has its flaws. Witcher 3 had such amazing scope and Witcher 1 has some fun old qualities to it.

Anyway, go play then until you're bored of them, then play something else!
White Wolf mod for TW1 is great. Play the game and get a feel for it in that mind-numbingly long first chapter, then install the mod and start over and get a good feel for how the game should really feel. And still manage to get bored around the middle /end of chapter 3...

Not to mention very uneven character models and animation. And while I've not played the original release of it, which was supposedly a mess what came to script, the game still has some noticeable oddities in dialogues.

I've written in more length of both games in my blog and as a whole, the 3rd game is the only essential one in the series if you are not fully intent on "experience the full story" by playing it yourself. But out of the two, Assassin of Kings is noticeably better in every way as a game.

Considering how good it looks even today, it's mind-blowing that this is Aurora. ;-)

There wasn't any buyer's regret for me, that's for sure!
Definitely a good purchase :). Might need a few hours to get into but then it's a really enjoyable game
Yes, definitely.
