Note to everyone:

For any games you have experienced that the overlay does not work with, the above trick of editing the goggame-*.info file to forcibly enable the overlay may get the game to work with it.

Beware though that GOG may have purposefully disabled it for the game perhaps if they were unable to get it to work reliably, or they may have just never bothered to enable it for the game yet. Either way, when forcing it in the config file in this manner, it may cause the game to become unstable and crash so if you're not comfortable with that, do not try this.

If anyone modifies the config files and gets the overlay to work with a game that it did not work with previously, please share your results here, what specific changes you made, and how stable or unstable the resulting game and overlay interaction seemed to be. If you have problems, please be as detailed as possible, as we can file bug reports to GOG to try to help get more games working with it better.

TIA
Game of the Day: Fallout Classic

Today I decided to try to get the overlay working with this classic game from Interplay in hopes it could be a special treat for die hards of this cult classic. I am using the original Interplay version of the game, not the Bethesda release that is presently available in the store, so the results may vary between the two. I'm sad to say that I tried every possible combination of configuration options that I'm aware of to no avail, so no good news for the overlay on this old classic. Mind you I didn't think it would work anyway as it is very old and probably will require a remaster to a new version of DirectX or OpenGL in order for it to stand a chance of working. Nonetheless, it was worth a shot even though it didn't work out.

As a consolation prize however, I do have a screenshot of the game in the ridiculous resolution of 2560x1600 to share with you all. It's too bad I can't attach it to the thread directly however due to GOG's ultra-low maximum filesize attachment in the forums.

Update: What's odd, is that last summer Fallout Classic and Fallout 2 Classic both were working with the overlay I just discovered from my former testing notes. So in theory these games could work with the overlay in the future too. Why they do not work now after they worked previously is a mystery...

I think you should separate games that work out of the box and games that work with tweaks. I think some people might just want a list where they can find games that "just work" with the overlay, no changing files needed. I'm sure eventually GOG will get around to officially tweaking these info files as needed.
I've some findings to share

[overlay works]
Undertale

[overlay doesn't work]
The Saboteur
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse
Bloodrayne
Bloodrayne Betrayal
Deponia
Pid
Rise of the Triad (2013)
Shadow Warrior Classic Redux*
Moto Racer
++++
Ys Origin
Momodora IV

*On Galaxy 1.1, the overlay worked like a charm for this game, but no longer for Galaxy 1.2

The games that just work out of the box are plain text, while the games that require tweaks to work all have hyperlinks on them pointing to the thread post on how to tweak them to work. I did it this way so that people can scan a single list to see what works and if it requires tweaks, to follow the link to find out how to make it work, rather than having to check several locations to be sure.

The GOG forum software leaves a lot to be desired or I would present the information in a way much more pleasant to the eyes and easy to digest. :) I've contemplated possibly moving the lists to the unofficial MaGog forum which has vastly superior rich text editing and wiki style markup over on Proboards, but even that is a bit buggy at times. Ultimately I think I will end up putting the data on a custom web page where I can control fully the presentation of the information in a useful way, but I don't have time to put that together for now so just keeping the simple lists here for now. :oP
