According to a Entertainment Retailers Association report, games accounted for more then half the UK's entire entertainment market in 2018.

The success is largely down to three games: Fifa 19, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Physical sales have gone down, but overall sales are still larger due to increased digital sales.

In addition, the repport does not take in account mobile and free games such as Fortnite, which is quite large as well.

While i'm happy for both good and ill that gaming is doing well because i like it, it's a shame that it's 3 games and publishers i care nothing for that are bringing in the big cash.

I guess for me indie, AA and occasional AAA titles like Witcher 3 and Metro series is where i'm going to stay for a long while if not forever, the success of drm and shitty money schemes makes me think it's here to stay but i can't complain too much because i'm content with how it is anyway and my current GOG library.

Whilst it's nice to see gaming is doing well here, it also seems an awful long fall going from the pinnacle of British video games studio's at their creative peak (eg, Bullfrog, Codemasters, Eidos Interactive, Lionhead, Imagine Software, Impressions Games, Psygnosis, Revolution Software, Stainless Games, Team 17, etc) and even popular pre-PC platforms (BBC Micro, ZX Spectrum), to 'evolving' into a nation seemingly being mostly interested in FIFA Annual Consolized Retexture Pack version 18 and Call of Duty 354...
