budejovice: 1. What is the best DRM-free (including Steam-free) Mac-compatible modern surface naval warfare simulator? Or civilian shipping simulator?
"Civilian shipping simulator"? What would that even be? (I'm assuming you're not talking about a simulation of shipping civilians. :) )
Also, what's with the '1'? Were the sequels to this question dependent on how well this one did at the box office? =D
AngryAlien: What I always wanted to know... when I buy chicken nuggets at a certain scottish speciality restaurant, I get a certain amount of dips. In case I want more, I have to pay extra. But in case I don't want any dips at all, I don't get a discount. Why is that? (And yes, I actually got thrown out of one of those "restaurants" once for kindly asking this question.)
It's just good business. Aside from the "they're trying to make money, blah blah blah" answer, they're also just trying to annoy as few people as possible. Imagine if they actually
did give "discounts" for orders with no dips (or other condiments): they would, in effect, then be charging EXTRA for these sauces. While that may be fine for you and the comparatively small number of other customers who either like their nuggets "as-is", or are cheapskates, everyone else would then be pissed off that they had to pay more than people who didn't get any dipping sauces at all. (Unfortunately for you, this is pretty standard at most restaurants, so if this one restaurant deviated from this practice, customers would say, "Well, McDonald's [or whatever] gives me sauces with my nuggets, and I don't have to pay extra for
those!".)
Don't think of it as "I'm paying for dips that I don't want"; think of it as "I get a certain number of
complimentary dips, and if I want more I have to pay extra". Besides, I imagine you will be hard-pressed to find many restaurants that will give you a discount for items that are included in the price of a meal, but which you don't want. =)
HypersomniacLive: Can someone explain to me why people feel so inclined to hit the "reply" button instead of the "new post" one when posting in threads like "Just Three Words" or "Word Association Game" threads when they're not skipping one or more of the latest posts?
I'm not a fan of replies in those threads
at all.
Especially in "Word Association": the whole point of the
concept of word association is to respond to what is said with the first thing that comes to mind, and the point of that "game" thread is to respond to the most recent response. So, yeah. But, a minor annoyance, in the grand scheme.
