XYCat: plans to dry up the mediterranean sea to get more land for agriculture etc.
To be honest the idea of damming the mediterranean sounds absolutely ridiculous.

Mr.Mumbles: I enjoy alternate history fiction, so I've been thoroughly enjoying the show so far, even if I'm wondering where it will be going with all the alternate timeline shifts. I'm looking forward to season 3.
Then I expect you know about Harry Turtledove and his alternate history stories. I have read his World War sextet twice now, and found them intriguing. it's 1941, WW2, then aliens land. He has also done a series on the American Civil War.

The name is certainly familiar, but I don't think I've ever read one of his books. Might be worth looking some of his work up at the library.
