Hello!

I came across this article: http://fandom.wikia.com/articles/joker-martin-scorsese-origin-movie

It's a stand alone Joker film that is going to be directed by Martin Scorsese. I'm actually looking forward to it. Common themes in Batman's world are tragedy and fear. Looking at Scorsese's other films, I think a Joker movie would be right up his crime alley. What do you folks think?

Thanks for replying.
I think it's an origin story movie about a character whose appeal owes largely to it not having a defined origin story.

The Killing Joke is the closest that it got to a good origin story, assuming those flashbacks are true, and this movie is definitely not going to be The Killing Joke, because it won't have a Batman though it might have a Harley Quinn.

Also, let us not forget that Scorsese is merely the producer, and the director is the same guy from The Hangover movies.

P.S.: I fucking hated The Departed, and Gangs of New York, and The King of Comedy, so a Scorsese Joker movie is hardly going to appeal to me regardless.

those sucked, I totally agree, but come on, Good Fellas, Taxi Driver, and Raging Bull are amazing.

Haven't watched those. Hard to convince myself to when when all the other movies of him I've watched I hated.

It's up to you but I encourage you to watch Taxi Driver should you ever get the chance.

It's a good movie, but frankly I think it's overrated. I think the hype sorrounding it kinda ruined it for me. I was expecting a revelation, and got "just" a good movie.

Anyway, I don't really look forward to Jokers origin story for the reason DaCosta already pointed out. Really, the only thing I like about this announcement is the fact that Warner Bros is going to make standalone movies not connected to the larger universe. Not just following the Marvel template is a good thing in my book. I seriously hope the rumors about Red Son movie are true, cause that would be bloody amazing, and this makes them sound at least a little more realistic.
Funny, I didn't care much for TAXI DRIVER, but I loved GANGS OF NEW YORK. And I'm not normally into "epic" movies.
Can we have a moment to discuss all his movies? :P

I am fascinated by these replies, but in a good way. I love diverse opinions when it comes to this sort of thing and I love seeing how people saw things differently.

How do we feel about "Good Fellas" and "Raging Bull"?

I'll be honest, there's a lot of his movies I have not seen. Good Fellas (and I know this is blasphemy) bored the hell out of me, as did the first half an hour of Casino. I was actually close to turning the movie off, because those 30 minutes are proably the worst exposition dump I;ve ever seen in my life. Fortunately I stuck with it, and it got far better as it went along. Still, when it comes to gangster movies I'll always be more of a Brian de Palma guy (and Coppola, obviously).

You know what my favourite Scorsese movie is? Hugo. I shit you not. I think it's a beutiful loveletter to cinema and everyone who, like me, loves movies. It's clever, charming, has fantastic performances from every member of the cast, great visuals, hell it even managed to make Sacha Baron Cohen funny. That's like turning water into wine.

Good- that's the way to end up with some original, unique movies.
