All of these sales on Dear Esther, and yet they can't even do anything right? Humble Bundle already had a system in place where it's either Steam key or DRM-free download for The Witness, and that was a custom system...what's stopping the devs from making Humble Bundle do...the exact same?

Probably nothing. Maybe they simply are thinking that those no-DRM-purists are willing to pay again for the game - don't know if that is the truth though but it sounds reasonable for me.
