Ok, so I'm having the same issue/annoyance. So I've turned off the global setting for desktop shortcuts, but games that are already installed do no honor this setting when updating. I have over 900 games installed and I'm not going to go through and uninstall/reinstall every single game, nor do I want to constantly keep moving the shortcuts to the folder I had setup on the desktop for them. So what I need is to know is, where does it store the settings for each game? The config file under AppData does not store this information and you cannot access these settings from client for each game...even in the new 2.0 client. Now that I can link all my accounts (Stem, Origin, etc) in the new client I was going to remove the shortcuts entirely, but I would still have to constantly delete them.

I have some suggestions to propose for the client:

1. Allow setting a folder for shortcuts other than the desktop.

2. Allow changing the desktop shortcut options per game after installation.

3. Allow creating a new desktop shortcut if you didn't create one originally (another annoying thing that has been absent the entire time the client has existed)

EDIT: Added some screenshots of my desktop and how I have it setup for reference. The folder on the desktop has a subfolder for each game service and the root of it contains shortcuts to games that I've installed directly from discs. This is a computer I setup specifically for playing older games. It even has a CRT monitor on it :)

Why do you need 900 installed games? There is one major problem to start with. Suprised your system hasn’t blown.
He went to Gwent in another Galaxy ;). Cheers

Having all those games installed is not a problem at all nor is it the root of the issue here. However, the system is fine, not to mention I have 6TB hard drive in it which is why I have them all installed (So the short answer is because I can). In any case, being able to turn off the desktop icon creation would be nice regardless.

Funny enough, Steam started turning off the automatic icon creation for my newly installed games lately. Not sure if that is a bug or feature, and I couldn't be bothered to check since I can just right-click and create one on my own (handy for non-Steam shortcuts anyway). But this thread is sorta about the opposite problem, not for installing games, but for every time it updates, the shortcut keeps coming up when I already have one.

That seems to have stopped a long while ago though.

And TBH, I don't need to have the massive install of Gwent, when I can just use the mobile version which uses significantly less space.
