Nice pic....but they should've put in a twist where they show spring breakers partying with little virii who hand them some free beers.

But still, it is good to have hope during all this, I think, and I applaud those who try to lift people's spirits during all this.....and do so with pasta....lots and lots of pasta. ;D

Ok, since we can't talk about politics even about covid 19 (a choice I don't agree with) I will illustrate a recipe (from WHO) modified by me of hand sanitizer.
The WHO recipe in fact included the use of glycerin or glycerol, which have become nowhere to be found.
Hydrogen peroxide 3% 8 grams
130-150 ml of 96% edible alcohol used to make, for example, cherries in alcohol (much easier to find than ethyl alcohol and with a much more stable price)
what is left to reach 200ml cooled boiled water and a drop of perfume (I noticed that the solution without a splash of perfume smells like vinegar).
Without glycerin what you get by mixing these three components will be 100% liquid (the glycerin would be used to make it a little more gel) so you need a spray on the used container.
72 hours of rest after putting everything in the final container are necessary to allow time for the solution to 100% sterilize the container (although obviously you will have to use a clean container, it will be difficult at home to be 100% sterile).
Making glycerin at home is impractical therefore I do not recommend it (also because it has no particular effect on the effectiveness of the disinfectant). Please note that edible alcohol does not harm the skin.

The price of all the ingredients should be around 10€ for 4-5 portions of 200ml of product and there will be a lot of hydrogen peroxide left over. Instead of boiling water and cooling it you can use sterilized water.
It appears that alcohol kills the virus in 30 seconds so it is very effective (as long as the alcohol is at least 60%).

I hope it is useful to someone.

Can you give me a tl;dr of that?
Just buy some Everclear, it's a superb disinfectant.

From the author of the comic: "We're not trapped in here with the coronavirus. The coronavirus is trapped in here with us."

But really, it's a good read. ;)

That's great if you have proper shops which sell it but some countries chemists are a joke or the state makes it harder to get.

You should find everything at the supermaket. At least the most important ingredient (edible alcohol) is not a chemists product. It is only pure alcohol used in cooking.
Hydrogen peroxide it's a chemists product, but it is really common even with the covid (at least in italy and being one of the most affected countries I think it is possible to find it elsewhere).
Even if you don't the most important ingredient is alcohol at least 60%, if you find that you can use it with a part of water to create a minimum hand sanitizer.

which is nothing but a brand of edible alcohol (if you can take the 96% version since on wikipedia I see different version)

My advice to everyone would be, if possible to get a bike. They're cheap, and you don't have to be in a large crowd and can get everywhere with youth much trouble. So, yeah get a bike and maybe a lot of instant noodles and an electric/gas stove. Portable ones should do the trick!

GameRager: Well at least you're healthy now, right? If so and it was an early form of covid, maybe you'll be lucky and be able to ride this out relatively unscathed.

(Though of course, we should all be very careful and take the proper precautions regardless, I think)
I think it doesn't matter if I appear healthy now or don't, even if you don't have any symptoms you could still be a carrier. While this theory about early strain of covid sounds probable, it seems far more likely to be a regular yearly virus infection.

Neither of them are in UK supermarkets. Surgical spirits might be there. The next most likely place is behind a counter in a chemist but then the staff can be obstructive for example,
Thank you for ideas on where to buy Hydrogen Peroxide Solution, this country is so pathetic.
I got interrogated by the Chemist in Morrisons for asking where I can buy it.
I told them that I use it for cleaning my retainer as well as other medical uses. I then said it isn't any of your business anyway and asked why they needed to know.
They said oh it is banned by the Home Office because it can be used to make b--m-s apparently.
I said, right, so people can't buy something used medically but people can at this time of the year buy e--------s over the counter, no questions asked in any supermarket or pop-up firework shop.
Yep that shut them up. Pathetic country we live in.
Another example in Ireland and the state giving orders to businesses unofficially.
In her ruling, WRC adjudication officer, Marian Duffy found Mr Mahmoudi was discriminated against on the grounds of race as the EU regulations apply to hydrogen peroxide with concentrations levels of 12 per cent or more and the hydrogen peroxide Mr Mahmoudi was seeking to purchase had concentration levels of 6 per cent.

Ms Duffy said a guidance document from the Government’s Inspector of E--------s states EU regulations apply to all e-------e precursors no matter the volume, but the document is not law.

Thanks for this post....will be adding it to the OP post as a link.

That said, I agree on the rule decision being a bad one in this case.....if you have some time and want to help out you could send a ticket in to gog about maybe giving this thread and covid threads like this an exception to the politics rules temporarily?

Might not do much but it might be worth a shot(I might add a wishlist to have people vote in later, as well). :)

Some good advice....I had a bike once(sadly it got stolen, but I might get a new one next year) and know how much fun/useful they can be.

Also yes, ramen is good as well....though of course those with high blood pressure should eat it sparingly(as it is high in sodium).....and a portable stove is a good thing to have for many emergencies/situations.

To all.....someone asked me to ask this if I have time: How many who were sick before and got better ALSO got a flu shot before then?

(I'm guessing it's possible if one got a flu shot before getting sick those who did get sick might have had a bad reaction to their vaccination/etc)

Sorry I did not know. Since alcohol is sold all over the world I thought that at least pure edible alcohol was everywhere.
I don't know if there is an easy way to extract alcohol from simple spirits such as wine or whiskey (or concentrate it at least 60%), in which case the alternative could be this
